Gamer Life General Discussion

Hey Gamers,

I know that I don't post often, but some help would be really nice. So, as a young man, 13-15, I remember there being a chart in a book for random family generation. It was something like

xx-xx mom and dad married
xx-xx Single mother/ father deceased
xx-xx Single Father/mother deceased
xx-xx Parents seperated but 1-10 kids or something like that.

That isn't exactly how is was, but close. I've been bugging my uncle for 2 years to remember where is was, he can't. I've bought first and second edition books, thinking it was in there, it isn't. Now, I do know that there is something close to OA1, first edition book. However, that's not the one I'm looking for.

From what I remember, it was section in a book with about 4 or 5 tables for random generation. Having everything from Station/Class of family, how many children (even broke down into males vs girls), and some other things that are fuzzy to my memory now.

I'd TRULY be grateful if anyone can list the name of the book. Or maybe even /nudge nudge writers of pathfinder add it to a book soon! Sorry for such a long post and again, THANKS for anyone who may point me in the correct direction.

I actually know about that chart! And I may have a copy of it on paper...i'll need to dig around for it though.

I know the first time I saw it was when I started gaming with my Father back with AD&D (1st Edition).

Awesome, hope you can find it! Thanks for posting too!

No problem, if I can find it i'll probably just have to type it up and post it for you.

If I recall correctly it also gave you certain 'skills' you knew already based off of social class and standing.

I think so, but that was about 20 years ago lol.

Liberty's Edge

O yeah I know what you mean...but alas i'll look for it. :D

Was is not in the 1st ed Unearthed Arcana?
I don't have this book anymore...

I remember there being one in the HarnMaster rulebook. Also the Savage Worlds Fantasy Character Builder Kit can go pretty deep into the family background.

Ultimate Toolbox says:

Table 1–2: Family Composition
1 Both parents alive, 1 sibling
2 Both parents alive, 2 siblings
3 Both parents alive, 2d4 siblings
4 Both parents alive, 3 siblings
5 Both parents alive, 4 siblings
6 Both parents alive, no siblings
7 Neither parent alive, 1 sibling
8 Neither parent alive, 2 siblings
9 Neither parent alive, 2d8 siblings
10 Neither parent alive, 3 siblings
11 Neither parent alive, 4 siblings
12 Neither parent alive, no siblings
13 One parent alive, 1 sibling
14 One parent alive, 2 siblings
15 One parent alive, 2d6 siblings
16 One parent alive, 3 siblings
17 One parent alive, 4 siblings
18 One parent alive, no siblings
19 Orphaned
20 Unknown family and background

Liberty's Edge

There was one in the Unearthed Arcana on page 82-83. It provides Social Class (examples of that type of SC); number of siblings and your place in the birth 'line', if your parents are married legally or not.

To the OP: if that's all you need I can copy the text from the book for you. As for the more detailed one I mentioned earlier i'm unable to find my copy of it but i've asked my dad for a copy of his. So I should probably have that in a few days.

Awesome, thanks everyone for the help! Nah, Azoun, thanks though. Thankfully I'm at my uncles at the moment and he has the book. Going to copy it from his printer, hehehehe. Thanks though!

I'm remembering the old Central Casting books from task force games back in the late 80s. They had tables for everything from number of siblings to occupations to racial and family traits to birthmarks and social classes.

Liberty's Edge

No problem man.

The first edition of Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay had a pad of character sheets that also included a booklet that included this and lots of other background detail generation. Mekton II has the same sort of thing in the main rulebook. I have both somewhere and wanted this last week but unfortunately can't find either of them:-(
