Question on Sihedron rings

Rise of the Runelords

Have the Sihedron rings been overhauled for the anniversary edition? It feels odd that they should provide, even as a side benefit,

Spoiler:
the glamour function based on one of Karzoug's prohibited schools.

Actually, I have another question about the rings.

Given that scrying doesn't work throughout the occluding field, are the Sihedron medallions really any drawback once you're in?

There aren't enough rings outside the field to fully equip a party of four or more, and the many rings available inside the field are so deep inside it that obtaining them that late seems almost pointless.

The Sihedron Rings...

Spoiler:
... retain their glamour function—that's really only a minor addition to the whole, and Karzoug and his followers had plenty of minions and slaves and prisoners handy to help add small side effects like this to the rings.

And while the occluding field does block scrying... Karzoug's ability to see through sihedrons (not just sihedron rings, but medallions and others as well) is not a scrying effect, so it bypasses the field's defenses.

Actually, you can at a dash get in, kill a couple of Giants and scarper back. It's risky and painful for those who don't get a city ring, but makes that first fight really tense and fun.

This may be one of the things that's been changed, but in the original text,

Spoiler:
it's explicitly stated that a runelord has no special connection to a Sihedron Ring, because the [non-scrying] clairsentience-like function would undermine its diplomatic value.

Just in case my players call me on this, if it's not scrying, what is it?

Its a similar effect—a unique and specific effect tailored specifically for one adventure. Put plainly... it's a divination effect. Very few divination effects are actually scrying effects.
