Will we need to start new characters or can we change the race to one of the Society approved races?
As far as I am aware, last I heard You still won't be able to play one of the Races from the Advanced Race Guide without a Boon that allows you to *Except the races from the Core Book*.
In other words once the Advanced Race guide comes out the races won't be open to all except for the Core Book races.
What will be available from the book are the new race options for players that have Boons for races outside the Core book.

If I were Pazio I would grant this boon to those attending GenCon...but that's just a rumor that I want to start :-P
I also think all the "archtypes" for races will be available.
There will be Race Boons at GenCon, In the past there was a specific Race per Boon.
What do you mean by archtypes?
Edit: Most stuff that is available to the races in the PFRPG Core book *Dwarf, Elf, Gnome, Half-Elf, Half-Orc, Halfling and Human* will most likely be made PFS Legal. Any Options for Races not in the Core book will only be legal for players that have a Boon to play that Race. The new Optional system to make custom races will not be legal for PFS.

Dragnmoon, are you aware of the difference between asterisks and parentheses? ;)
Personally, I'm hoping that the ARG will have all that nifty stuff from all the "________ of Golarion" books all in one place. :D
EDIT:
What do you mean by archtypes?
You're not familiar with archetypes? Or just didn't know the ARG was going to have some?

I was not aware they would have some. *parentheses? ;)*

Racial Archetypes? That's kind of cool. I wonder if they will be able to be *added* to a PC, or if they have to be in place from level 1.
Also, on a side note, all these new Archetypes make me think of the late 3.5 stuff that was being published in Dragon Magazine and Unearthed Arcana that had things that were Alternative Class Abillities. I have to say that I like what they're doing, and the way that Pathfinder has unified the way that they work into a coherent system.
Kudos.

Generally when new books are released, you don't get to rebuild into an archetype, you have to start at level 1.

Actually, when a new book comes out, you can usually take an archetype with a PFS character as long as the first level at which something is replaced hasn't occurred yet. If the archetype you want to take has something replaced at first level and you've already played your character, you're out of luck. If nothing in the archetype is replaced until 3rd level and you're second level, though, you're golden.
At least, that's the way it used to be.
