General Monster converstion question

Conversions

Ok so I'm working on converting 3.5 adventures and I heard somewhere that a general rule when converting monsters from 3rd or 3.5 is to treat the monster as if it were CR-2 (3rd edition conversions) or CR-1 (3.5 conversions). So in this vein I'm taking monsters made in 3.5 and converting them over, same ability scores, same special attacks/qualities (pathfinderized if they exist in pathfinder), and pathfinderized skills and traits. Then I apply the advanced creature template to them so that they'd be the CR written on the adventure.

Is this correct? Or is this really a case-by-case basis?

Well I've converted many monsters from 3.5 to PFRPG and I use the table at the end of the Bestiary as general rule line to best assign the right CR to the creature. And even in that case it's really hard to choose because sometimes your monster will have more HP than average but lower attack rolls or dpr or many other different cases. choosing the right CR it's an Art

What omega said. With that table you can ballpark the monster. Just convert it and compare to the table and if it too low for your needs than slap advanced on it.
