Being from New Orleans, a city with a rich history of excellent cuisine, I enjoy good food and have several favorites. So, what are people's favorites? Home made or restaurant, it doesn't matter.

Red Beans & Rice (a traditional Monday dish) is my absolute favorite meal in the entire universe.

A good stew is always a pleasure.

There was a restaurant back home called Bozo's that had some of the best Chicken and Andouille Sausage gumbo I've ever had the privilege to eat.

I'm a sucker for good Kung Pao Chicken.

And, of course, a discussion of food would not be complete without a mention of boiled crawfish.

The Exchange

I love Crawfish. And all southern food. My uncle has a small food shack down in Louisana, and he serves some mean fried pickles, catfish, and okra.

I live in (Location Held) Colorado, so we don't get a whole lot of credit for food. There are a few good restaurants that serve Spanish/Mexican food, and a hand full of Chinese food, that are actually really good.

On a side note, It is almost impossible for me to turn down curry...

I like Kung pao chicken yay and lemon chicken. Now I want red beans and rice.

Chicken vindaloo!
Pho.
Kimchee.
Lasagna.
Shrimp po boy.
Lots of other curry dishes both Indian and Thai.

I just discovered watermelon salad. Watermelon cubes, feta cheese, chopped mint leaves, and some spices.

I do love Pho, a good steak, pad thai, and about 1000 other things.

Picking a favorite food is hard. There are so many that I like.

Chicken cacciatore.
Yedoro wat.
Samosas.
Ramen. (not the instant kind)
Pork buns.
Coconut ice cream (made with cocnut milk, no actual milk involved).
Green tea.
Biryani.
Chicken tajine.

I think those take the top spots for now.

Only a 1000? What a sad, flavourless land you live in.

Ah, you mean what they serve in Japan? That stuff is Fawesome!

(Eating out food)

Breakfast...

Its either Black-pudding, bacon, pork sausages, garlic mushrooms, fried Haloumi cheese, spinach, baked beans in a salsa(real not tinned) and poached eggs.

or

Eggs Benedict with smoked salmon.

Lunch

Vietnamese pork roll, or Yum Cha, or a Mezze Plate.

Dinner

Brazilian Churrasco, or Tapas, or roast lamb.

Shrimp. For some reason I've always loved shrimp. Crab and lobster close behind.

Most steak, as long as it's medium well or better. Can't stand much pink in my meat.

Crawfish are good on occasion. One of those things that if I want it, I really want it, but if I don't really want it then kind of meh about.

A nice, thick-crusted pizza with lots of meaty toppings (plus mushrooms and black olives, sometimes) also goes a long, long way. None of this thin-crust nonsense either.

I've never been keen on ramen. I prefer other cuts of noodle. Soba or udon probably my favorite.

You ever had really good pho though? God. Puts everything else to shame it does...

Homemade buttermilk biscuits with sausage gravy.

Homemade blackberry cobbler with vanilla bean ice cream.
Steak (medium-rare, preferably cooked on a charcoal grill); green beans with onion and bacon; baked potato with butter, cheese, and bacon; ceaser salad; fresh rolls with honey-butter.
Triple Steakburger with lettuce, onion, and mayo, and an order of onion rings cooked extra crispy.
Chicken and dumplins.
Chicken parmigiana.
Veal parmigiana.
Chicken-fried steak with sausage gravy, home fries, and green beans.
Bacon-wrapped hamburger cooked on a charcoal grill.

I could go on, but I don't want to drool on my keyboard.

I approve of your love of bacon. When the zombiepocalypse comes, I'll make sure we eat you last.

Liberty's Edge

Supreme Pizza from Pizza Hut (original pan-fried crust), a side of McDonald's French Fries, and an A&W root beer. Top it off with a ginormous plate of Pie à la Mode. And another root beer.

No, seriously: Chicken Marco Polo, wrapped in bacon, and topped with melted Cheddar. Serve with creamy mashed potatoes, hot dinner rolls, and a Caesar salad. (And a root beer)

Hi there Aberzombie !

I'll be in New-Orleans in late august. Any good advices for me ? Must be restaurants, must try bar... ???

Thanks in advance from Old Europe :)

Scarab Sages

Tough to say. I haven't lived their in over 10 years, and a lot has changed since Hurricane Katrina. Not sure which great restaurants are still open.

At the least, I believe Cafe Du Monde is still open, which means you must go there and have some Beignets. As I recall, it's open 24/7, but the best time to go is about 1 or 2 in the morning.

Crawfish won't be in season, technically, but you may be able to find a place that has some farm-raised. If you do, get some boiled crawfish.

There is a restaurant somewhere near the French Quarter, I can never remember the name, where all the staff are drag queens. I've always been told that both the food and service are excellent.

As for bars - go to Bourbon Street. Once there, you need to hit Pat O'Brians and the Cats Meow. There are plenty of other good bars along the street, but those are two of the best.

I'll likely be down there myself in June - If I remember, I'll get some more suggestions for you.

Tacos, definitely tacos.

After thinking through my previous response, I do recall one great restaurant I'm fairly certain is still open - Barecca's. It's actually in Metaire, on Metaire Road to be precise. Great food.

I've been learning to make kung pao chicken. It's actually pretty easy, takes a bit of work, but simple over all. The sauce is all pretty easy to get stuff.

In Seattle, get teriyaki. I've had teriyaki in Hawaii, Japan and a few other places. Seattle has the best, far and away. People in Seattle don't realize what they have. People outside Seattle don't realize what they're missing.

My top 10 list (in no order):

Neapolitan style pizza
Thai peanut curry
BBQ rip tips
Smoked salmon
Bacon Explosion

Agreed, I'll eat a steak at a restaurant and start thinking to myself "This is good... but it'd be even better they let me cook it."

There's a restaurant in the Norfolk/Virginia Beach area called Great Steaks which lets you do just that. You pick your cut of meat, and can season and grill it however you want.

Very Interesting I will need to look that up as I very much enjoy cooking my own steaks. Preferably with an adult beverage in my hand while I do it.

Here in PA, we call that "butcher shops" ;p

Where in PA are you at WhiteKnife?

I used to live in Allentown.

Hollidaysburg (by Altoona-State College)
