Miniature Storage

Liberty's Edge

Figured I'd start a thread, since I accidentally derailed the discussion regarding the RotRL minis.

Just curious what everyone uses to keep their miniatures safe.

I might eventually lean towards some type of cabinet to display what I have.

chessex box. Nothing else i've seen holds them still and unbent even when stepped on.

I have cubes similar to this for full time storage, with canvas drawers in them. When I'm traveling to a game, someone on here suggested a two comparment locking tub from target I can fir the books i need in the top tub, and the minis in the bottom... they're about $10

Craft or bead boxes from places like Joann's, Michaels, Hobby Lobby, etc. can often be found relatively cheap. The smaller boxes range from around $3.00 US, to upwards of $30.00US for the larger boxes with inserts. For DDMs these types of containers are usually OK for most of the minis up to medium size. Some of the large craft containers can store Large sized minis too. But for many Large and most all of the Huge figurines I usually store them in the plastic shoe box sized containers, or larger plastic tubs that can be found cheaply at Walmart. For both Metal and some Wizkid minis I have had to add a little foam rubber padding to keep them tight in their individual compartments.

I try to have a case for each set depending on the number of figures. I will also have smaller containers organized by type, Orcs, Goblinoids, Kobolds, Drow, Undead, Animals etc. And then another case or two for the current campaign. I have probably ten different types of containers that I use.

Sterlite plastic "shoe" boxes for my D&D Miniatures, very roughly sorted into a bin of "undead-related," a bin of "most recent campaign," a bin of commons, a bin of uncommons and rares (mostly still in the plastic), and a bin of Unhallowed set (still in the plastic, and of which I'm missing maybe 4 minis). I also have a couple huge D&D minis sitting on my mantle because I'm out of room in the "shoe box" bins and need to buy another one. They cost like $1 each, I just haven't bought one yet.

For the metal minis, of which I have very few finished, I have them in foams in a cardboard comic book box. The unfinished ones that have been based are sitting on my mantle, and, aside from one in my toolbox (my next one to start), if it's not based, it's in original packaging.

For metals I use foam trays from Games Workshop. I matched them with a plastic container from Walmart. For plastics, I just throw them in small plastic containers in some organized fashion.

I use a Stack On Storage boxes for storing at home, they are big enough to fit most larges, and a Plano Tackle box with sliding trays for travel.

Dark Archive

I've found that for plastics, any old small container will do (much like Asphere, I shop WalMart and get the square containers with handles on top).

However, if it's WizKids (and thus Pathfinder Battles) go with smaller containers, as the weight of too many minis causes them to break.

Silver Crusade

Just in a box together, though last time I stabbed my hand on a broken minature. And once I get my custom minature for my chracter, I may start being more careful.
