Mounted and unmounted characters

Hi all,

My next character is planned to be a Cavalier, and I was, unsuccessfully, looking for a set of figures that has a matching mounted and unmounted character. I know Ral Partha did something along these lines way back when, but does anyone know of a modern company that has this??

I have looked at Reaper, GameZone and Scibor so far...although they have good mounted figures, they do not seem to have the same figure unmounted.

Help!!

PS I am not fussy at this point re race, mount etc

I don't often use mounted characters and haven't looked much into them, but have you taken a look at Games Workshop? They're expensive, but many of their "boss" units have mounted and unmounted versions, or (because you build units out of pieces) you could assemble a mounted and unmounted variant that look very similar.

What I started doing was attaching the mount to a large (10x10 base), but doing so off-center so there's room to put the rider on that very same base to show it's mounted. If you have Facebook, you should be able to see this picture, which has some riding rams in the background using this technique. I actually sculpted some ridges in those bases to help hold the rider miniature in place when you move the mount.

The empire general from GW has a mounted and unmounted version. The gw suggestion is a good one (if expensive) - most of their figures are multi part, with legs seperate from the torsos, so you can buy two of a foot figure you like, buy a mounted figure and then kitbash it together. Empire, Brettonia and Chaos Marauders are the lines you would want to look at.

Perry Miniatures has mounted and unmounted troops like GW does. Not sure of the scale, I believe historical folks are usually smaller in scale.

GW makes many of the Lord of the Rings miniatures in mounted/foot sets that would be suitable for a Cavalier. This is one example: Prince Imrahil

Other miniatures from the same range: LOTR Heroes and Command

I feel really dumb...I didn't even think of GW. Probably because I generally find their figures too exaggerated. But the LotR stuff is really nice. The Eowyn set is gorgeous. Thanks all.

The Perry Miniatures are gorgeous, but they're definitely smaller than 'heroic 28mm'. I got a set of their War of the Roses plastics, and they're amazing pieces, but significantly smaller than Reaper or other Fantasy minis.

Just wanted to thank you for the link - I think i have found the perfect anniversary gift for my wife. She too plays a cavalier and that is nearly exactly how she described her character!

Welcome.

Figured out how to list all the foot and mounted figures in GW's current range:

This is an unusual one that caught my eye which would work nicely for a gunslinger:

Well, I have just ordered Eowyn and Glorfindel...so I should be right for Cavaliers for a while. Though I still think there is a bit of a gap in the market. Too bad if you don't want to be elf or human....mmm...that sounded really negative.

I am very grateful for the pointers in this thread.
