would kingmaker be a good reference for homebrew?

Kingmaker

In my homebrew campain the players are in the process of recovering an old dwarven stronghold. After they do the plan i have involves them building up the city to its former glory. I havent read too much on kingmaker, but it seems to me that this could be a good sourcebook to draw from as it has citybuilding rules and such.

The players are also going to have the option of exploring the underdark and nearby wilderness to utilize them as resources.

Am i on track thinking that this book will help out my campain?

Sovereign Court

You will want the Rivers Run Red Module of the series. The kingdom/city building rules are in there.

The exploration part is just standard. In Stolen Lands exploration time is determined by party speed and terrain. I believe that there might be enough info in the Core book for that. Otherwise there isnt much more you can squeeze out of Stolen Lands.

I believe War of the River Kings has rules about army combat.

Silver Crusade

City Building and exploration are fun and fairly solid. Mass combat is a bit weak. I have previously said the best mass battle rules I have seen were the ones in the Legend of the Five Rings roleplaying game so I would recommend that.

John Brazer Enterprises collected and expanded upon the kingdom building rules from Kingmaker and put them into a handy volume. I'm not sure if you have to have RRR as well but it's still useful to have. You can find that book here

Scarab Sages

This is also an excellent source for mass combat rules:

Warpath

It is covered in more detail in one of the early Chronicles podcasts as well during a Hank Woon interview.

Of course it would be. Aren't all if not most supplements, adventures etc just to be there to help out the gm? We're still suppose to make it 'our' own. It wouldn't be too hard to change names of places and drop into your home brew. I buy so many 3rd party stuff and drop it into my "Golarion". I did the same for Forgotten Realms. You take what you like and change what you don't. There are a ton of great and very talented peeps that share their time and talent on these Kingmaker boards. I'm sure it's the same for the other paths. I just say that only for Kingmaker because it's the only one I currently pay attention to. Since I'm running 2 groups through it.
