The All Inclusive Gamer Community Thread

Gamer Life General Discussion

I recently started a thread for the LGBT gamer community here as a way to add another support system for my fellows and I to have a voice and connect in the world at large. Many interesting discussions and experiences have been shared there but there has been one reaction some people have had that honestly rather startled me; which was feeling that they were being left because their orientation didn’t match mine and that I was essentially creating an elite club thread and edging out non members.

This was in no way my intention and while I have stated there that this is not the case and that anyone could say what they liked after thinking about for a while I can see how you feel.

This thread is for gamers of any orientation, race, creed, or gender to share their life stories, experiences in gaming, and struggles.

Talk about whatever has meaning to you and interests you and feel free to be honest about who you are and how you feel.

*raises wine glass*

Cheers

Well, I don't know... I kinda liked the exclusivity of the last thread.

;)

Well I suppose what we could do is point out that this is an all inclusive GAMER thread. If you are not a gamer, interested in learning about games, or a professional working in a field at least a little bit related to the the gaming industry let me show you to the door so you can get the $%^^ out! Members only!

ELITEZ CLUBZ FOR THE WIN!

I just objected to the sexual objectification clearly displayed in the name of the other thread.

:p

This thread has no standards. You will not catch me posting in it!

I am better than this thread. Won't catch me mixing with the hoi polloi!

"Cool, I get drunk!"

The immortal words of every first-time roleplayer, immortalized by Dr. Demento.

One of these days you're going to get too close to me and I am going to grapple you then swallow you whole, little goblin. Perhaps you have a high Dex but my CMB is ungodly and I am going to eat you.

Note how the ambience of the 'all-gamer community' thread so swiftly sunk. The LGBT thread was SO much higher-toned.

True, though most people game to have a good time, so maybe with 'gamer' as the sole qualifier a little sillyness isn't so bad. Perhaps later when I have more time I should post some more, hopefully at least slightly relateable, personal things to see if I can get the ball rolling.

D&D was the thing that turned a couple of antagonistic @$$holes into good friends, back in high school. Once we found out we were all into gaming, all the hostility went away. And we had a group that played on for over six years, so it was doubleplusgood.

I'm straight, but I didn't feel left out. I posted probably three times in that thread. Why should anybody feel left out? We all know or have known people of alternate lifestyles and persuasions, and if we don't, we have that to talk about at least.

People are connected, whether we like it or not, so I don't see a need for feelings of exclusivity.

Doesn't this thread offer connections to people that don't want to be connected though.

Resistance is futile. You will be assimilated. Your culture will service ours.

When you think that you reached the bottom, someone starts knocking from below.

Oh my, I feel responsible for this. This is rather embarrassing...

I admittedly feared that the LGBT tread might have been exclusive of non-LGBT, and expressed my worries. You replied that your intentions were not so and invited the "straight-er" community. A few non-LGBT posted and weren't ignored nor turn away.

I don't think anybody has issues with the tread, including me. This makes me happy because unlike other boards, it seems that the Paizo community can make a trad about a (often discriminated) minority without discriminating those who aren't part of that minority.

regards,

'findel

Hehe It's all good, I'm just trying to be accommodating. Doctor Wu might be right though not sure if there is much interest here. I think I will just leave the thread alone awhile and if something comes of it jump back in.
