Heyo,
I'm a new GM and I'm wondering what you guys use out there for a cost-effective terrain tile? I'd like something with a realistic feel. I found these on eBay, they seem pretty awesome. I like the quick setup idea.
Are there any other non-cardboard alternatives you could recommend?
Cheers!

If you're willing to spend some time and don't mind a mild learning curve, there's Hirst Arts.
Also, Longtooth Studios makes interlocking dry-erase boards with pre-printed grids under the name Battle Boards.

I use Hirst Arts and attempt to build them and paint them so they match my Dwarven Forge stuff. If you buy a floor mold and a wall mold you can make an enormous modular dungeon(s) and populate it with www.megaminiatures stuff. Hirst requires lots of casting, gluing, and painting but you can make some cool stuff. Check out my thread here to see some of the stuff you can make with Hirst:

Cfe- Hirst arts would defiantly be the most cost effective. If you want to see some examples on how to build and paint using hirst arts check out this you-tube channel
