anyone give experience point awards for crafting magical items? I figure points can be given on several bases:

1. A simple xp bonus for using the skill
2. A large bonus based on caster level of item
3. Some sort of bonus based on time, caster level, etc.

Don't you think that having magic shizzle at half price is a bonus enough? This stuff used to *cost* XP back in the 3.5 days.

well you get xp for killing a monster and getting gold...or xp for disabling traps, or bluffing, etc.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Actually, you get XP for overcoming challenges.

Is crafting a magic item a challenge?

Grand Lodge

it can be a challenge, yes. isn't anything you roll to see if you succeed a challenge?

Grand Lodge

Not really.

Gold is another form of xp you use to buy abilities that do not come from class.

Grand Lodge

so you are telling me that rolling vs. a high DC isn't a challenge? Doesn't sound right to me.

If you did some epic quest to craft an item, roleplayed stuff, dealt with haughty NPCs, then there might be a roleplaying award depending on how the GM viewed the challenge.

If you just made a few rolls, paid some gold, and basically did a downtime action, then no, no XP. It's no different than you character going shopping.

Similarly, if you have some great adventure in the marketplace, overcome goons, ruffians, pickpockets, and haughty shopkeepers to finally achieve the object of your quest--a new nutmeg grater, or the pointed shoes to match your pointed hat for the Acadamae ball, or whatever--then yeah, you might get some XP. But that's for the roleplaying, not for the mere fact of shopping.
