I'm trying to decide on an AP for a pbp game that I am going to run for some friends of mine. Does anyone have any advice on which of these would work better?
The biggest concern is running-time. Kingmaker will take years and years to run. Jade Reagent is "normal campaign length." The PBP format exacerbates these time issues.
Pratically speaking, this means that you will likely not finish Kingmaker, as groups tend not to last for that long before disbanding.
OK, that is actually very helpful advice. I'm browsing through the player's guide for Jade Regent now, and I realize that it will give me an opportunity to explore a lot of the Japanese mythology that I know as well. Thanks for the heads up on Kingmaker.
Well, my players are people with whom I play a monthly Carrion Crown game now. Therefore, I know all of them well, and I'm hoping that will prevent things from derailing as they sometimes do in play-by-post games. I know that some of them like the sandbox idea, but I don't know if it will be difficult to manage the kingdoms in a pbp game. At the same time though, I can see how political intrigue could work well in a text heavy game.
With that being said, however, I'm drawn to the Eastern theme of Jade Regent since I speak some Japanese, and my wife is Japanese, so I could really explore the eastern mythology aspect.
Pbp is perfect for kingdom ruling.
Also, I don't know why Kingmaker will take "years" to finish. We have been playing weekly (roughly, 3 per month) for 6 months and we have resolved half the thing. You caj complete it ib 1 year if you want.l
