Anyone else see it yet? if so what did you think?

X-men vs the Avenger vs Saint Seiya, but it was fun to watch.

Five times better than Clash of the Titans. I give it 8 1/2 stars.

Indeed, it was a significant improvement over its remade predecessor. The beginning of the film is a bit stuttered and choppy, bouncing abruptly from brief scene to brief scene to brief scene, but once the first of the titans shows up (which is only maybe 15 minutes in) the movie picks up pace and flows better.

It left me eager to play DnD/Pathfinder/anything by the time the credits were rolling, so, yeah - I enjoyed it a bunch.

I enjoyed it, still liked the two actresses from the first better then the old looking blond one in this one. I wish they could have at least got one of them back. Also wish the final fight was longer, to me the fight with the Chimera was one of the best ones.

Really?

I um, thought it was actually worse than the first, and I hated the first one. I had hoped this one would be better just because it wasn't a remake, and the effects might be worth watching.

But uh, while the effects were cool, I really thought it was terrible.

The first one failed to grab me because the movie never got me to care about anybody that was in it (it seemed like all the scenes from the original that helped establish an emotional connection with the characters got cut in the remake).

The difference with this one was I found myself caring about Perseus, Helius, and their relationship. That made all the difference for me.

I like Ryan Harvey's line from his review over at Black Gate:

A sequel nobody demanded from a re-make nobody cared about. There’s no John Carter of Mars “never gonna see a sequel” bitterness here at all.

Liberty's Edge

"The pacing was off"-my daughter.

"The musical score sucked hard and failed to please, or even move, me."-me

I was bored by this movie. That should not have been possible.

Saw this today. It had some okay moments, but I was severely rolling my eyes at the massive overuse of herky-jerky/quick-cut/shaky-cam BS for almost all of the fight scenes. I can only assume the intention was to create a sense of being "in the middle of the action" or a hyperkinetic sort of sensation, but it ended up being a chaotic, jumbled, blurry mess. If you're going to spend all the dough to animate these inhuman monsters, why not LET THE AUDIENCE SEE THEM??????

The characters were pretty blah and none of the sets really knocked my socks off. Overall, it was... meh.

Spoiler:
The chimera design was kinda cool, once they slowed/steadied the action enough to actually SEE it. The Kronos design was not bad. I did like that the character of Hades was not just a straight villain, like he usually ends up being in most Greek mythology pop culture stuff (contrary to the myths, where he's a pretty neutral - if cold and unfriendly - character).

I agree with everything you spoilered. 'cept for Kronos, I thought he looked a little... well plain, and that the Kraken from the previous one was a cooler looking, more wow!-inducing BBEG. Regardless, one thing I think these movies have done well has been to express a sense of scale - the overwhelmingly large size of the Kraken & Kronos, the vastness of the Labrynth, the cyclopses, etc.

I agree with this.

Here is a thought experiment, think of what the kraken looked like in the original clash of the titans.

Ok now think about what the new kraken looked like.

Now ask yourself:

Spoiler:
What does their chest/torso look like?

Most people can think of the heads, but I think you'd have a much easier time thinking about what the body looks like in the original because you got a clearer and more stable picture of it.

I can't really answer because I didn't see the remake of Clash, and I wouldn't have seen this one except for the fact that it was playing at the Pacific Science Center ginormous IMAX and the tix were free with my family membership. My 14-year-old son enjoyed it, though he thought the ending was a little blah.

If the remake Clash was anything like Wrath, though, I would guess that it was pretty hard to get a solid visual of the new kraken.

I do agree with Dal Selpher above, though, that the movies absolutely did successfully convey a sense of scale with the enormous creatures they had. They really seemed TITANIC, which was wholly appropriate.

Spoiler:
As for Kronos, I liked the way he threw a wave of molten magma with his hand, and as it flew through the air it hardened into rocky lava. I thought it was a nice touch.
