omg its amazing.
I was less than impressed. I enjoyed the heck out of it for the first hour or two, but the fun was quickly overwhelmed with a frustrating and tedious magic system.
Magic is so iconic in games like this, but Grimrock basically encourages you to play mage-less. I've made a few attempts to go back and finish it, but I can never get past level 5 before I quit.
I just keep hoping that the come out with some sort of fan-patch that redoes the magic. The game has so much potential for me!
(this is all personal opinion. I know a lot of people really enjoyed the magic system.)
Magic-user or not, Grimrock encourages specialization. A wizard focused in a single element (I recommand Air) is very powerful. Do not spread your skill points all over the place or you will regret it.

Not gonna lie, I hated this game.
Mostly because of the aforementioned "You want magic? Well screw you." factor.

I found the magic system alright and performed well enough with it. Though I had a single Air mage and only used the basic one rune spell, but I can understand other people's frustrations. I just wish exp divided evenly among the party and not just people that hit. Created some aberrant behavior on my part. Beat the game on Old School and Hard.
It didn't help that the best party composition is in fact four rogues: two frontliners with max dex/evasion with all the evasion equipment and focusing in dodging (those two survived the fighter's challenge without even trying), and two ranged rogues in the back with maxed strength for whopping damage.
