This may have been asked, but I did not see any thread regarding it.

Can we have homunculus familiars in PFS?

1)Homunculus familiars require the improved familiar feat. No problem there.
2)Homunculus require you to have it crafted before you can make it a familiar. Problem - we can not use the craft skill or the craft construct feat.
3)Homunculus allow you to have someone else craft it and you supply the blood and ritual. Problem - there are no rules for having an NPC craft you a custom item.

If we can have a homunculus familiar, what is the cost? It sure isn't 2,000 gp per HD. That's the craft cost and we are buying this sucker retail.

I hate to bump my own thread, but I am trying to decide on a familiar for my witch and homunculus's (homunculi?) are on the short list. I figured that since it's the only post without a reply it probably just fell through the cracks and all us work avoiding people missed it.

1) Correct with needing Improved Familiar feat.

2 ) You can not craft in PFS so you will have to hire an NPC to craft it for you.

3) Most of the time, a NPC can not craft a custom item for you. This case is an exception to the rule and will be added to the FAQ.

4) Per the book, it doesn't matter who crafts it, it is still +2000 GP for each additional Hit Die above 2. So, that cost would be added on.

But there is really no need to add hit dice to it since the Homonculous's hit points and abilities are based on the wizard's are there?

Correct, but if you ever die, that homonculus reverts back to 2 HD.

Yes. Hit points stay the same.

However,
"Additional Hit Dice usually results in better attack bonuses, saves, hit points, and skills, as well as more feats."

So Hit Dice give you
1)Size increase if you want it
2)+1 to an ability score for every 4 additional hit dice added
3)+1 feat every odd hit dice added (this is the biggy)
4)extra skill ranks

The rules are not well drawn out for adjusting monsters based solely on additional Hit Dice and not a change in CR.

Thanks Mike for the clarification. Keep up the awesome work.

That is incorrect. It could not travel more than a mile from me so it is here in Seattle. That is my Simulacrum you are referring to my Simulacrum.

I suppose it might be worth the extra gold for the right feat. EWP (Firearms) would be a great way to make GMs cringe :D

Wait, but doesn't that mean...

Uh oh...I guess I have to add another line to my business cards.
