I think I've mentioned this previously but we have a regular PFS group in Manteca on the first and third Thursday of every month. Even if you aren't too interested in organized play over the longer term, a PFS group can be a good place to meet fellow gamers and organize a home group. That's how I found several of the players in my home group.
There is also a group that meets on Wednesdays in Lodi... a bit of a longer drive. There is a group that plays out of Castle also... not sure when they meet.

There is also a Stockton Pathfinder Society group which has a bit of overlap. The organizer of that group runs the games out of Launchpad in Lodi, but we also discuss other games. You might be able to stick your head in there and connect with a local non-PFS group.
