Anyone remember this strange but fun movie from the 80's?

I certainly do. The Adventures of Baron Munchausen

I have yet to meet a Terry Gilliam film that I haven't liked.

Another Terry Gilliam fan over here. "Brazil" is stunning. "Time Bandits" is one of the best family films evah and "The Fisher King" and "12 Monkeys " aren't far behind in my list of all time faves.

I own the DVD. This is one of my favorites. This movie also has one of my favorite movie scenes of all time.

And what scene is that Grand Magus?

Nope. That one is just for me.

Okay each to there own.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

guessing Uma Thurman might be in Grand's memories....

I can't restrain myself any more. Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas

Funny the most successful of the Pythoners would be the one with the least lines.

Also, Terry's career is filled with quite a few never-realized projects that make me cry. For example.

I can only assume you never saw Tideland.

So many fun scenes in this strange movie.

Proving an internet axiom, I thought Tideland was magnificent.

Nothing is so good that nobody hates it.
Nothing is so bad that nobody loves it.

Never saw Tideland, although my friend was a big fan of the book. Chances are, though, that I'm going to like it.

I love the part where they flashback to when his "adventuring group" where in there prime.

The moon was interesting and also being inside the giant fish was great as well.

When I was young I was sad that more of the movie wasn't like the flashback scene, but, over the years, I have gotten over my disappointment. Hmmm, I haven't seen that in a while...

A great movie! Every time I watch it there's a new little nuance or something I hadn't noticed before...

The Extraordinary Adventures of Baron Munchausen RPG is also loads of fun with the right crowd.

on the back cover is wrote:
BARON MUNCHAUSEN regrets that there is not sufficient space here to describe his renowned game, but gives his word that any GENTLEMAN who cares to open the cover and inspect the contents will be amused and edified. He cannot, however, make the same assurance to LADIES and members of the LOWER CLASSES unless by some good fortune they have learned to read, and perhaps not even then.

Hey Doodle.

I've still not been able to start, and watch, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas.

Messrs. Gilliam, Depp, and del Toro are geniuses; I fear it's me that's lacking in this regard.

Yeah.

I'm still impressed I ever got to see The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus.

It was a work of love on Terry's behalf to see it completed.

Do more drugs.

Woah. I totally missed this.

[Scurries off to Netflix]

Buggy,

Thank you for the hyperlink (I don't think I've ever seen that trailer).

And alas, me sirra. No Happy Netflix, on this one.

But it's worth some calories.

I'm not sure what you're saying with the third line, but The Imaginarium is now, no. 1 in my cue. While I'm at it, I should order Tideland, too.

More than two months later, "worth some calories" simply meant it's worth the expenditure of effort to see it.

It's strange, my Netflix subscription is only for streaming services, and I can't even tell if Netflix has Doctor Parnassus available for DVD rental.

Hope you've managed to see it, regardless.
