I'm self-employeed. My work often leads me out of town for a week at a time. Sometimes I work evenings. And while I sometimes have a week or two with almost no work at all, there are stretches of time where I work every day of the week.
So the question is: Is there ANY hope of me joining a gaming campaign for the times when I am available? How should I present this either IG or OOG? What would justify my character leaving the party at odd times and rejoining later? Is this accomodation too much to ask of a gaming party?
I was thinking of starting my own campaign that meets on Sunday afternoons as this is the ONE time that I know I simply won't be booked and that others could also make the game. I don't often see gamers meeting on Sundays, but that could just be because I haven't seen it. I've never seen a tornado either, but I know they do happen.
I feel like being "sick" once or twice a year is acceptable, but missing half the adventures puts an unfair strain in the rest of the party. Thoughts?

Or move to an online game using one of the Virtual tabletop software so that you can still play when on the road.
Or Pathfinder Society as DM says. Since it's not an ongoing story, dropping in and out is OK. An online PFS group is here:

I've run games with groups where everyone could not show up all the time. We managed. As for the hopping in and out, we used a number of mechanisms, including, "the party is whomever shows up and don't worry about it." It works ok. It does require some communication so that players aren't entirely out of the plot loop.
