What do you think of the 1E reprint covers

The new covers are up in the product catalog here.

What do you think of the look? It's better than I expected from the blurry shots of the slide projected during the seminars. And that banner across the bottom isn't there.

Meh. They are ok. I would rather have had the picture taking up the entire cover, just like they used to do in 1E.

I'm torn between buying these or not. I want them to round out my collection. I don't want to give money to build a statue for anyone. I would rather that money go to something more important, like education or medicine.

Like I said, the banner isn't there. When I saw the earlier picture, I was afraid they'd have that on the actual cover.

I'm going to buy them, both for my collection and because I think we need to make sure to sell them out. If the stores end up asking WotC for more, maybe WotC will concede what we've been telling them since they pulled the PDFs; people want to be able to buy the older editions.

I just wish they'd get past their "piracy" fixation and put the PDFs back up. There are a few of the 1E PDFs I don't have.

Dark Archive

They're nice, but I managed to get a positive Will saving throw against nostalgia.

Given that normally when you buy books you're giving money to fill out someone's bottom line, I don't see the statue as an issue. Given what he helped launch and it's social impact, I'd say that statues have been made for lesser accomplishments.

I feel the same way about a lot of statues. I would much rather that money get spent on something better.

Like an old gamer's home? ;D

I was just talking to a friend who works in the local library system. He was saying that the library is looking for donations of roleplaying books. I wonder if the money raised by the reprints wouldn't be better spent that way?

I'm personally all in favor of a statue and think it's a nice gesture for WotC to make this donation. I think it'll be a great way to respect Gygax's memory. He should be honored for what he gave the world. I don't live in the area but I would love to visit the statue some day and chat it up with the other gamers gathered around. Naturally, I would want to check the statue for traps or secret compartments. :-)

I think that the covers are fine. I plan on buying a set.

The Exchange

I have my originals, so I personally have no need for these. If I had the money to spare, I might consider it.
