Looking through the bestiary in CC Vol 4 I see that none of the Mythos monsters have the Extraplanar subtype. Surely some (if not all) should have it, no? The Spawn of Yog-Sothoth in Carrion Hill has it so why not the Star-Spawn of Cthulhu and the Dark Young of Shub-Niggurath, at least? As written, Dismissal and Banishment would work on a Spawn of Yog-Sothoth but not on any other Mythos monster. Seems odd.

My understanding is that the Mythos creatures come from the Dark Tapestry. That is, the depths of space (or as they put it "the darkness between stars"). It is still the Material Plane, though. Therefore the creatures are not extraplanar.
I don't have Carrion Hill, so I can't speak to the Spawn of Yog-Sothoth. Perhaps it was an error, or an earlier understanding of the Tapestry?

I be with Mort, here. The Mythos critters are from the same plane, therefore not extraplanar, and not subject to traditional banishment. That's one reason why they're so dangerous; you can't get rid of them as easily as your run-of-the-mill demons and whathaveyou.
The Spawn may have been a misprint / misinterpretation, then again, these are beings beyond the understanding of mortal minds. Maybe something in the process of infusing their immense power into a mortal husk combined with the immortal nature of a human soul opened a bit of a channel between the Spawn and some other plane of existence, resulting in its extraplanar nature and, thus, vulnerability to traditional banishment.
Or, maybe a wizard did it.

Maybe Yog Sothoth, being both the key and the gate, is contemporaneous to many planes of existence at the same time, where as most mythos monsters are not, the majority of mythos creatures come from the material plane, either the depths of space or from a displaced time (either the far future or distant past).
