Gamer Connection

Moved to the area in April 2011 and finding a good game has been much harder than I expected, maybe the right people will read this.

I've been at this for a while and like to play interesting characters through interesting stories. Better to have too little combat than too much and better to have an interesting group than a balanced one. I'm slightly allergic to cliche overuse which tends to make me prefer homegrown worlds and homegrown adventures, but done right I mind not either. Pathfinder rules are preferred but I'd contemplate others if the campaign seems interesting enough.

I can also GM although things being as they are with work I'd rather not do it often (I've played several campaigns with rotating/changing GMs and have had no problem with the arrangement). I'd happily help something get started.

Have a good game everyone!

I moved down to San Jose in September 2011 (from Portland), and have been running into similar difficulties finding a group. Please keep me in the loop with any leads you come across, I will do the same.

I think I have a similar mindset to you:
- Combat that moves the story along is good; hack and slash for the sake of hack and slash i bad.
- I want to play in a living, breathing world, that my character is a part of, not the center of. Whether such a world is homegrown or soemthign well known and published matters little to me.
- Rules shouldn't get in way of the story, but are still essential architecture to frame the execution of the story. I've enjoyed the Pathfinder ruleset the most, but am not entirely opposed to other options (though would favor a system Iam familiar with to learning something new from the ground up).
- I am capable of GMing, have done so many times in the past. while I would greatly prefer taking a break from the big chair and playing, I have no issue with a rotation type of system.

A man of my own thinking! I can live with that.

One of the issues I've seen is that everyone will post in these forum threads but by the time enough people have done so so long has passed that the first few have already found something elsewhere or have decided to take hardcore knitting.

So tell you something, if one more person posts here within a couple days we all meet in some coffee shop and see if we can get something rolling. I don't mind a game with only a couple players as long as both make it to the sessions consistently, more can be added later. Besides when it comes to a running campaign with adult players, experience shows that it is pretty much needed to always be on recruiting mode. Some players don't work out well, life makes other leave as well, so it is very hard to keep a fully staffed game going for long if there's no effort made to add more people to it to a the point of slight overstaffing.

I just moved out of the B.A. to the Central Valley & have been running a dying rotating G.M. Pathfinder Home brew with my siblings. But I really would like to see my campaign vision come to fruition.
So, have you guys found enough for a game?

Well, including you it's three I guess. Enough to start something, although probably not to fill a full adventuring group :P

I'm trying to get in contact with one of the players from my last attempt at a campaign, he's pretty much in the same wavelength as us here, from what I read from Laughing Goblin at least. That would make it four and probably more worth starting something.

I'm local to Silicon Valley except when I'm not--I'm up in Tahoe for the ski season (whenever it starts) and will be back around May. I will be having an opening in my regular Pathfinder game then due to a player moving to NM, but that's obviously not here and now for new gaming.

I'd suggest checking The Bay Area Dungeons & Dragons Meetup Group which is where I found a number of my players over the years and also go to Game Kastle in Santa Clara.

Also, I would attend DunDraCon next month which is the area's oldest gaming convention. That would let you scout out local players and find people who mesh with your personal style.

Oh trust me, I've tried all of those. The Bay Area D&D group seems pretty dead-ish these days (the admin apparently disappeared for half of last year or something, I wasn't admitted into it until five months after applying), as for Game Kastle, neither its real nor virtual presence appear to have a critical mass. You post something, you get a reply after a month, another one after another month and by the time enough people have replied the first ones who did have died of old age or found something else elsewhere or just taken up hardcore origami instead of roleplaying.

Other than the con, that is (haven't been here that long). I may check it out, schedule permitting.

MLM: Keep up posted on things, I would love to see if we can work something out.

Ok, we got something tentatively going on. It's me, someone who I met in another board, and the guy I mentioned earlier from my prior campaign. If we manage to get a couple more people we have a full group, even with just one more we got something worth starting an adventure with.

Current plan is to meet next Friday, 7:30 PM at Game Kastle and see if everyone is in the same wavelength, figure out campaign premise, build a group etc. Everyone who's in so far adjusts pretty well to Laughing Goblin's manifesto above.

The plan is to play every other week. Currently aiming for Saturday but everyone who's in so far can adjust to any other time in the weekend.

If anyone wants to come, feel welcome. RSVP appreciated, and if more details are wanted let me know and I'll send in better contact info.

Have a good game everyone!

I, unfortunately, cannot make this Friday. It's just a previous commitment for that specific day, so should not affect my involvement thereafter. Saturday's should work fine for me as well.

Let me know if I would still be able to participate since I can't make the initial meetup. Here is my contact info

No problem, I'll let you know what transpires on Friday and we can meet at some other time afterwards or when the game starts.

I'm jammed up on Friday as well. I'm really interested in joining up with you folks on Saturdays though.

Come to think of it if both of you can meet on Saturday we can do exactly that. RSVP fast and I'll let the other two folks know about the change of plans/additional meeting (depending on whether they've got someone for Friday).

Correction: we're scheduled to meet tomorrow SATURDAY 2:00 PM at Game Kastle. Apparently everyone already in found it a better time.

So hope any or both of you two can make it.

Tried it already. Not my thing, didn't help too much.

Good luck anyway :)

Ok, to whom it may concern.

We got already four people in, including me and another one who will GM (him more than me, probably).

Plan is to begin playing on Saturday 2/11/2012, in the afternoon, somewhere in the San Jose area.

We ALSO plan to meet on Saturday 2/4/2012, 2:00PM at Game Kastle in Santa Clara to discuss setting, players, time and place to play etc. We did meet last Saturday but with the last minute time change it was a little disorganized. We're not making that mistake again, if the other GM can't make it at the scheduled time, I will be there.

Parking was tight last Saturday but it was probably due to some new magic cards coming out. Still, if anyone wants a ride from San Jose Diridon or downtown let me know and I'll arrange to pick up.

EVERYONE IS WELCOME TO COME NEXT SATURDAY (or if that can't be, to the game proper a week later). Especially those who have already shown their interest, but not limited to them.

RSVP appreciated although I won't die if you forget to post and happen by on Saturday.

Feel free to let me know if you need to know anything else. You can also contact me directly at oscarmv at mac dot com if needed.

Apologies and good gaming.

Óscar.

We need a few players for our group. See my thread.
