This is a write up from a player I have. I will nix the last part on certain alignment for it being a cheezy way to lower cost and is a restriction that has no effect since he is making it for a specific character. Does this all follow the rules?

Bracers of Mage Armor,

DC for the Spellcraft Check is 6 (5 + Caster Level 1). I'll bump it with +5, to DC 11 so that it is only 4 hours of crafting per 1000gp value. 'This process can be accelerated to 4 hours of work per 1,000 gp in the item's base price (or fraction thereof) by increasing the DC to create the item by 5.'

It's a Command Word - Spell Effect, Caster Level 1... so 1800gp is the base.

I'm limiting it to 50 Charges (cuts price in half), so we're at 900gp market value.

Also, only can only be activated 3 times a day, which is 60% of that... or 540gp market value.

Lastly, it's limited to only function for Good alignment (or Lawful Good) if you prefer, which is 30% off. This brings us to 378gp market price.

I would look at the price of a wand of mage armor and apply the slotless modifier. That is basicially what it is. Considering how long mage armor last it most likely won't be used more than 3 times any way.

I think a 1st level wand is 750, so that should(I don't have a book in front of me) to 1250.


Is he crafting this himself or buying a custom item? If he has craft wands he can make the wand for 375gp and it will function at caster level 1 like this item and have unlimited uses per day in case of dispels or anything else that could force him to need more than 3 charges per day.

Other than that....

Unlimited charges at 3 uses per day is only 1080gp and you shouldn't restrict it to 50 charges needlessly. It still requires a standard action to use and lasts only 1 minute. If it's dispelled it requires another standard action and uses up another daily use. Considering 16000gp is the cost for mage armor on 24/7, this item is limited and is worth the 1080gp. With this item he can only have 3 minutes of a +4 deflection bonus to AC a day. Yes, 3 uses a day can cover most encounters in a day but the caster is still vulnerable in suprise rounds and dispel will destroy him. Making it half price for 50 charges again does bring it to 540gp, but means your player will be wasting more money for the same item again and again when he could just buy a wand for 750gp and avoid this item taking up one of his magic item slots.
