Mystery and Imagination, Adventure and Death!
Beyond the borders of civilization, beyond the influence of manipulating politicians, greedy merchants, iron-handed clergy, and the broken masses that toil for their benefit, the ruins of ancient civilizations call to those bold enough, and desperate enough, to escape the oppression of mundane life. Treasure and glory await those courageous enough to wrest it from the darkness. But the danger is great, for lurking in the forgotten shadows are forces far more corrupt than even civilization. The price for freedom might be paid in souls.
Lamentations of the Flame Princess: Weird Fantasy Role-Playing presents a sinister and horrific twist on traditional fantasy gaming and provides you with all the tools needed to create and run a long-lasting campaign tailored to your specific vision. Simple enough for a beginner – with material intended for those that have never before played a role-playing game – yet meaty enough for the veteran, this is a complete game in one box.
The Grindhouse Edition includes never-before-seen spells, magic items, and introductory adventure, as well as a revised layout and over 100 new pieces of fantastic art that will transport you into the nightmare world of Lamentations of the Flame Princess!
This PDF version is separated into multiple files, one for each of the books in the original box set—Tutorial, Rules & Magic, Referee—as well as the character sheet and miscellaneous charts and tables.

Jam412 - It's a full game, but like Swords & Wizardry, it's based on the original D&D. This one veers away from the traditional a bit more and has a more weird, pulpy feel. So less Tolkien and more Robert E. Howard and H. P. Lovecraft.
Wow, that sounds very cool.

Sent. Hope you guys enjoy! Merry Christmas!
To anyone else, sorry, maybe tomorrow for the final one.
Sheesh, AdAstraGames, do you have my posts on speed-dial? That's two for two.

Sounds good. Sometime in the new year good? I'm recovering quite well from my shoulder surgery.

Cool, glad to hear your recovering. Going to see you at the dinner table Sunday? If not, have a great holiday and see you in the new year.

Not quite - but you posted just after I hit refresh and focused the message boards after I'd written two lengthy posts in other topics. :)
Returning the favor, btw:

It is a game designed very well in the spirit of old-school savagery. The absent facets of the game are monsters and magic items, because these need to be crafted for the adventure. Instead there are guidelines for this. It has a style that I find delicious and the adventures seem to be generally good. I can't tell you how it plays because I haven't gotten to play it. Finally, I would argue that the game is worth buying merely for the Vornheim book. Do yourself a favour and check that out.

Rules-wise, I'd say it's closest to either Labyrinth Lord or S&W: White Box. It breaks the Saving Throws up into Paralyze, Poison, Breath Weapon, Magical Device, and Magic. Armor Class starts at 12 for unarmored, and increases as the level of protection increases.
The biggest divergence from most retro-clones is that it brings a do-it-yourself approach to monsters and magical items. They tell you HOW to create them, but other than a few examples, there is no standardized list of monsters or magical items.
The tutorial book gives a good list of recommended reading, and the Referee book gives recommendations for conversions from different retro-clones as well as an overview of some of the differences between those systems and LotFP, and a nice section that recommends several publishers for their adventures, and it's pretty up-to-date in the Grindhouse edition, even listing relative newcomers like Frog God Games.
There's not really a setting in this boxed set, but LotFP's does also make adventures and setting products.
And later today, there just might be a post regarding one of those...

Thanks Crispy, but I already have Christmas evening plans.
One more word about this product...even if it had no text, it might be worth the price just for all the awesome art.
It is sitting in my cart waiting until after X-Mas. I was reading it at IndiCon last month and liked what I saw. I ended up getting ALL the Clockwork and Chivalry stuff along with RuneQuest II instead though.
