I need a name for a Pathfinder supplement.

I'm about to create a thread in either Homebrew or Compatible Products, but I have a few things to iron out.

First, here is a link to the only thread about it I have so far.

Now, what it needs is a name. What I want to do is a play on Dungeons and Dragons. Essentially, two words starting with the same letter that make someone think of an Age of Sail setting. I can't seem to think of two good words, though.

Second, where shall it be put? I don't have my own website (money issues), and I don't charge money for my work, so I have to put the PDFs wherever I can host files free. Does that preclude me getting a publishing license from Paizo? If so, does that mean I put the thread in Homebrew and not Compatible Products?

How about Gold & Galleons?

Rather Pirate-sounding, but it could work.

Vinland, it needs to be said that copyright issues have nothing to do with whether or not you charge for your work. If you're putting it on the 'Net you're publishing so I strongly suggest you look up the Community Use Policy.

It doesn't look like I'll be using the CUP. I'm told it doesn't cover what I'm doing, as it's mainly geared towards Product Identity. I'm applying for a formal license, it looks like.

Well, it touches (and partly includes) the "Golden Age Of Piracy", so...

unless you want to leave that part out.

I'm torn between starting coverage in 1600 and 1650, so it would fit.

I've got it.

Introducing... Trailblazer. A Pathfinder expansion taking the game from 1500 to 1918, complete with it's own campaign setting (with multiple timelines for plenty of customization so that you can play the game you want).

Yes. It's perfect. It's not the wordplay on Dungeons and Dragons that I wanted, but I think it works very nicely. I also really think expanding into the Victorian and Wild West eras is a nice idea, especially if I include lots of Steampunk.

Scarab Sages

You might want to do a google search on that, first, I am pretty sure I've heard that as a brandname in gaming before.

Silver Crusade

Pathfinder Adventure Path Subscriber

Yep, there's a commercial d20 product called Trailblazer out there. Here's the website.

What about Voyager? Google turned up nothing on that.

Then again, could I legally use Trailblazer anyway? After all, there is more than one product called Pathfinder.

Scarab Sages

You probably could, but in a market this small, you will want to avoid confusing your customers as badly as legal quarrels.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

I know it wouldn't work, but "here be dragons" is tempting for an age of sail game.
