I have started a Meetup group to help people try to find games near their locations. I am a active GM in the Hampton Roads area trying spread the love of PFS elsewhere and I figure why limit it to just my local city.

Also would like to invite GM's to join and try to find players for their games.

This is 100% free. The group is newly formed but I am adding games more and more.

I also make sure the Virginia Cons all get posted as well so GM's and players a like know where we can go to get our fix.

Do they still charge you for owning a Meetup group? That is why I stopped using it years ago.

Anyway, some time soon, both on these forums and on Warhorn, I will be posting up details for PFS play at MystiCon, a sci-fi convention being held in Roanoke, VA on Feb 24-26, 2012. I am looking at having two slots on Friday, three on Saturday and one on Sunday, with at least three tables per slot, or more if the sign-ups warrant it. The website is http://mysticon-va.com and the rate for the weekend is $30 til Dec 31st. Also, we do special deals for volunteers and any GM who runs three slots, which is equal to about 12-15 hours of volunteer work, will get in free to the convention.

Yes I paid that out of my own pocket. I don't plan to charge members money for the site as it seems counter productive to me and it wasn't to bad of a charge for me. I didn't have to learn how to build a web site.

I have already sent a PFS email to mysticon people about a week ago offering to help.

If your the one running things I am willing to help and I might be able to provide a few GM's. Roanoke isn't that close to Virgina Beach but alas the wife hasn't been there so she can go sight seeing ;-)I would likely GM all slots or All -1.

Darius, that is cool. :) There are also two VCs that are somewhat close, in DC and in Raleigh, NC. Raleigh is the closer one to Roanoke by a fair bit, so I have been in touch with Steve Miller. I do not know if he will make it up, but he is working on getting some GMs for us as well. I should also write to the DC VC, just in case he has some interested people. Also, while I am not the one in charge of the gaming in general, since I have the experience with Paizo and PFS, I have been helping them with that.

Also, for those that would need the info, the host hotel's convention rate is $85 per night.

I am also in charge of the vendor's room and the artist's alley, so the only slot I may be able to make would be the one Saturday evening, but I look forward to it.

For Mysticon, I think we'll have some interest. I might go down there.

As for a VC for the rest of VA, that's something you guys would have to talk to Mike Brock about. We obviously cover NoVA pretty well, but Richmond and south isn't really something we can control, nor have anybody really brought up that I am aware of at least. We can share info in the future to help and coordinate certain dates in case people did want to come up or go down.

Hmm..I'll have to keep this in mind. I run a couple of Pathfinder groups in Lynchburg (and surrounding environs) and have been, until last years catastrophic disappointment, attending SheVaCon. I will definalty try to get into at least one of these sessions as a player. While I consider myself a fairly experienced GM I've never done Organized play and want to try it out before I start trying to run in that style.

I personally am interested by the idea, logistics arn't on my side though. My home games are just that run out of my home (occasionally a players if needs be and once in the conference room of an unsuspecting employer of another player). Location really is the main issue, and thanks to a local institution and "figurehead" whom shall remain nameless, the gaming scene isn't exactly looked upon favorably. If you know anything about the area and have a suggestion though I am more than willing to listen.

Paul,

First, congrats on becoming a VC. Second, what parts of Virginia do you cover, just the eastern half or the whole state? Third, even though I am helping organize a convention in Roanoke, I actually live in Lynchburg. Unfortunately, my work schedule prevents me from doing any kind of regular gaming or organizing other than at the rare convention.

I cover the whole state but Dan Simons and I have some overlap with the suburbs of DC

I live in Virginia Beach so I am prepared to drive to where ever. Mysticon is a CON I want to make as it will allow me the chance to meet the PFS'ers and get more familiar with the Roanoke / Lynchburg players.

Ah, ok. :) I just wanted to make sure, since by distance, Steve down in Raleigh is still closer to Roanoke than either you or Dan.

Paul if you want to send Mike Muenier the list of mods for MarsCon. I'll just jump in and judge whatever. I was thinking of the newer mods for Nov and Dec maybe and one or two from GenCon? Like Frostfurr Captives?

The closest VA convention that I can inform you of is MystiCon in Roanoke, which Enevhar Aldarion (above) coordinates.

However, Mace West in Hickory, NC may be even closer for you.

Dataphiles 4/5 5/55/55/55/5

Sorry I for the slow response as I have been out to sea for a few days.

Qstor - I will be sending Mr. Muenier the modules. I plan to run Into modules, new scenario's and possibly a module on Saturday for the con.

RainydayNinja - The closest thing I have planned in Virginia is Roanoke but lords know I am willing to get a game in Bristol started and Mr. Miller pointing out Mysticon is a great idea.

Ok we have two Conventions coming up in the Roanoke, Va. area.

17-19 February SheVaCon

24-26 February Mysticon

We will be posting a warhorn sign ups soon.

Intriguing, just out of curiosity any quick brief on what may be going on at said cons? I'm curious as I like to line up my schedule ahead of time if possible (and warhorn is an annoyance for me for some reason so I don't look at it unless I know there's something I want on there.)

Well at the SheVaCon we are running

Games are as follows:
Friday 8PM - 12PM
#2-21: The Dalsine Affair (Lv 1-7)
2-EX: The Midnight Mauler (Lv 1-7)
3-01: The Frostfur Captives (Lv1-5)

Saturday Morning (8AM-1PM)
#29: The Devil We Know—Part 1 (Lv1-7)
2-01: Before the Dawn—Part I (Lv 1-7)
3-09: The Quest for Perfection—Part I (Lv 1-5)

Saturday Afternoon (1PM-6PM)
#30: The Devil We Know—Part 2 (Lv1-7)
2-02: Before the Dawn—Part 2 (Lv 1-7)
3-11: The Quest for Perfection—Part 2 (Lv 1-5)

Saturday Evening (7PM-12AM)
#41: The Devil We Know—Part III (Lv 1-7)
#3-13: The Quest for Perfection—Part III (Lv 1-5)

Sunday Morning (The Zombie Shift) 10AM-3PM
2-EX: The Midnight Mauler (Lv 1-7) **

There is also a #1 Silent Tide and a We Be Goblins game also being added but I don't have a time slot.

** Sunday tables are open gaming so we will have to find a spot to play. As this game isn't officially slotted I will run the game if I find four people semi-awake.

I don't have a schedule of events yet for MystiCon as I am not able to commit to that CON due to work related stuff but Enevhar Aldarion might have more info.

Paul,

Unless you have gotten an answer back from the folks running the gaming at MystiCon, which I have no control over, the gaming schedule has been posted on the website and when I looked at it a few days ago, there is no PFS listed at all. I am pretty sure there will still be available tables, so if you or other folks can organize a few sessions independently, we will find room for it to be played.

That's interesting, I looked at the Mysticon gaming link the other day and saw that scheduled and it looked like the only thing on it was "open" gaming while on the main page it actually listed PFS, as well as some other sanctioned stuff.

Well guess the only option is wait and see, thanks.

Hm, I do not see PFS on the site right now. Maybe when it could not be worked out, they may have removed the reference. However, there is some non-PFS Pathfinder scheduled. And like I said, if there is someone who can organize it and be there to manage it, then there will be some. Whether anything can be set up enough in advance to list it on the site or do any kind of pre-registration, I do not know. I will be too busy running the dealer's room and artist's alley over the weekend to have a chance to play or GM anything and definitely won't have time to be in charge of any PFS play that happens. Last year, at the first MystiCon, the gaming area ended up being a last minute thing and we still had enough PFS people show to run four or five tables over the weekend. So if they come again and other PFS people show, there will be games, just no advance schedule.

Dataphiles 4/5 5/55/55/55/5

Yes I take it as a personnel failure upon myself for not getting Mysticon as organized for PFS this year as I would have liked but real life made that impossible to attend the con myself. I am making it too SheVaCon.

I know there is PFS interest for the Mysticon as Enevhar got a hold of me to get events rolling just before I assumed the Venture Captain position.

One of the things I am planning when I attend SheVaCon is to find a good Venture Lt for the Roanoke area. I have a couple of hopefuls for the position but I want a face to face meeting first and get the ball rolling.

Things aren't looking good for a high (6-7) level game since it is lacking those signups. I am sure you can rally some low level sign ups. I am going to pull the plug on my end. At Marscon the table was made days before the con.

Best wishes happy gaming.

Out of curiosity how was the gaming at SheVaCon this year? I could only afford mysticon or shevacon and I opted for the former after a debacle with the shevacon host hotel last year. But if the gaming situation looks to be improving again I may have to revisit my decision making process next year.

Dataphiles 4/5 5/55/55/55/5

Went well. Friday night we ran 3 tables, Saturday we ran two tables for three slots. Sunday was sort of a wash a myself and my Venture LT ran away from Roanoke due to the snow and I couldn't risk missing work.

The con itself I would guess 500 poeple ish but I don't have the official numbers. Bubba Fett was a cool dude to meet.

Paul,

I do not know if you made it out to MystiCon at all, but while there was no PFS played that I could see, there were a few sessions of regular PRPG run. Our overall attendance pushed close to 900 and our open gaming areas stayed busy almost the entire weekend. Oh, and we have a reporter and photographer come in from the Washington Post to do a story on the convention and when they were checking out the gaming areas and taking random photos, I made sure to point out to them the current most popular RPG, Pathfinder. :)

Mysticon was really good this year. I did manage to get in the Friday night PF game, it was indeed a random encounter. The culminating event of the evening resulted in the party having to bash our own rogue unconscious in order to succeed.

Now if only that dang Dalek would have been quieter.... Hopefully next year the RP tables will have their own area. I heard a rumor to that effect on Sunday.

Dataphiles 4/5 5/55/55/55/5

We are getting PFS to Mysticon next year. I am happy I did run PFS in Roanoke this year at SheVaCon but work be damned I am going to try to pull back to back CONS there next year. Might have to hire Doug Doug to come down to help.

The real trick is getting a solid PFS game out there at one of the local Venues year round so when the CON do roll around we have a fan base ready to support.

Liberty's Edge 1/5

Are there regular PFS games held in Roanoke? I travel there for work quite a bit and am interested to know what options there are.

Dataphiles 4/5 5/55/55/55/5

I am trying to get that established now. I found a local coordinator during SheVaCon (which is in Roanoke) and we are trying to get this setup.

Liberty's Edge 1/5

Sweet. I will be headed there in the next month or so and will check back with you. I am happy to run a game or two during the week I am there if there is interest.
