[UC] The spell Jury-Rig

Rules Questions

The spell says:
"While under the effects of this spell, an item with the broken condition suffers no adverse effects from that condition, and is treated as if it is not broken."

If I misfire my pistol and then cast jury-rig on it, if it is "treated as if it is not broken" and I misfire again, what happens?

a) It explodes.
b) It gains the broken status again, and another Jury-Rig must be cast to repair it
c) Nothing, because it can't be broken while Jury-Rigged.

Thanks!

Well, consider what the PRD says about misfires:

prd wrote:

Misfires: If the natural result of your attack roll falls within a firearm's misfire value, that shot misses, even if you would have otherwise hit the target. When a firearm misfires, it gains the broken condition. While it has the broken condition, it suffers the normal disadvantages that broken weapons do, and its misfire value increases by 4 unless the wielder has gun training in the particular type of firearm. In that case, the misfire value increases by 2 instead of 4.

Early Firearms: If an early firearm with the broken condition misfires again, it explodes. When a nonmagical firearm explodes, the weapon is destroyed. Magical firearms are wrecked, which means they can't fire until they are fully restored (which requires either the make whole spell or the Gunsmithing feat). When a gun explodes, pick one corner of your square—the explosion creates a burst from that point of origin. Each firearm has a burst size noted in parentheses after its misfire value. Any creature within this burst (including the firearm's wielder) takes damage as if it had been hit by the weapon—a DC 12 Reflex save halves this damage.

Advanced Firearms: Advanced firearms can misfire, but when they do, they only gain the broken condition. A further misfire does not cause advanced firearms to explode.

While your gun is jury-rigged, it's not counted as broken, but it is broken. The question is which takes precedence?

Personally, I'd say it's not all that overpowered to use it exactly as it says - since it's not counted as broken, it can't explode, and a misfire "makes" it broken, but it's still not counted as broken. I guess you could interpret it as the magic holding it together takes the hit, but isn't dispelled so it keeps on ticking.

Specific trumps general and the spell text is more specific than the misfire rules. Which makes the spell super awesome, especially when loading up with special ammunition.

The spell DOES seem super awesome, which is why I thought I should ask and get some other opinions ... ;)

I read it the same way as well.

I don't think it's as awesome as named bullet. It's easy to miss the part of named bullet where how it turns an attack into an automatic critical threat. This is dangerous at low levels, but once someone starts getting those XYZ Critical feats, it's deadly.
