How to reboot an Amazon (random musings)

I think I'd keep a 'from the beginning' reboot supporting cast small.

Not counting amazons of course...

Steve Trevor. USAF pilot, rescued by Diana when his plane developed trouble/collided over Paradise Island. Allows for a cute reversal of the 'Superman saves Lois' bit. Unfortunately I don't see how to work "You've got me, who's got you?" bit into it.

Etta Candy. UN translator, serves as a cultural bridge for Diana (starting with teaching her English).

Donna Troy. Etta's adopted daughter.*

Basically, the idea I had was that Themascyra/Paradise Island was mystically cloaked by the Greek gods and the relics they entrusted to the Amazons' care. They also had effective immortality, only by combat, accident, or choice would they die, those that left the island before forgot all knowlege of it. By their pact with the gods, the only way there would be new Amazons. They supliment their numbers with capturing men for reproduction and rescuing women.*** (Imply if not outright show, that men are disposed of when they're finished. These aren't nice people)

Our story starts when someone*** steals the various magical treasures and the island's cloak is ripped away. Basically Diana is sent into man's world to find the relics, because she's special****

My thought is at the climax of the first (12 issue) arc, Diana has recovered the golden fleece and uses it to save the lives of Etta and Donna. Donna's lost mother is revealed to be an amazon when the fleece heals her and 'activates' her Amazoness. Voila! Reboot Wonder Girl w/o any of the headaches.

This allows for multi-ethnic amazons on the island. I like the idea of (for example) a black amazon rescued from a slave ship.

Circe in my first thought, my second thought is another tribe of Amazons in South America, or both, or under orders of Hera

I'd go with the 'Diana formed from clay' origin. It allows me to make her more than just 'an amazon' and give her some powers, like a healing factor that works as long as she's tied to the earth.

As to Amazons themselves...

Before the relics were stolen all the Amazons had heightened senses, reflexes and strength. Basically it's an island full of Captain Americas. Their lives living saturated in magic make them resistant to magic, except for magic based on Greek Mythology..

When the main series starts, the amazons still have those powers, on the island itself, but if they leave, they quickly lose their abilites, and start to age. Diana's ability to leave the world is explained by her mother as being because of the remaining artifacts she wears. (Think Captain Britain when he first appeared). This isn't the case.*

In Diana's case it's because she's fashioned from clay and brought to life. In essense, she retains her powers away from the island because she's part of the island.
