Half-Fiend with no wings?!

Homebrew and House Rules

if a player is wanting to play with the half-fiend template and they want to shirk the wings for a prehensile tail, what would the majority reaction be?
what bonuses/ negatives would be ruled for this idea?

I'd be fine with that. ESPECIALLY if the player found a fiend for a parent who has a particularly prehensile tail and no wings.

Marilith, Ice Devil, Astra daemon, Shemhazian, or a Horned Devil with a birth defect.

not looking for any special power but maybe a tail slap and holding small objects with it really. no poison or extra damage.

Sure, why not? I wouldn't require parents w/o wings either (after all, all kinds of strange things can happen when two humans have kids, so, who knows what might happen if one parent is a fiend...).

Possible benefits of a tail:

a) +1 to all Dex checks and all Dex-based skill checks while in motion
b) +2 to certain Escape Artist checks (not all, but some)
c) use it to slap an enemy (maybe not too well, and maybe not for much damage, but, hey, you can do it while both hands are full)

Just some thoughts.

I'd look at 'ancestor' fiends for answers, if the progenitor is a marilith claws and wings might be inappropriate, but a tail, maybe even replacing legs might be suitable granting a sizable against trip attacks, a tail slap and a bonus on grapple checks.

A barbed devil might give something similar to the plant domain power, themed differently ofcourse.

Ice Devil might get a tail slap with 1d6 cold damage.

Might look at the bloodline abilities for ideas, not just the infernal/demonic but others as well.

There are also a few alchemist discoveries that involve extra body parts (including wings and a tail-like tentacle).

i just thought it would be a fun idea. give something like +2 to acrobatics and to cmd vs trip. maybe a d4 tail slap or small object grab.

I don't know how long this proposed tail would be, but it might be worth giving a glance at the Whip Mastery feat tree for some possible uses either from character creation or as he gains hit dice. Not everything from them would work, but it's something to consider.

maybe 4'-6' not very long. enough to warrant bonuses for balance type things.
