What's in a Name?

Pathfinder Society

Grand Lodge

Of course anyone can create any name for their Society PC.

And absolutely you can't tell a Player he or she can't sit at the table just because of the PC's name.

But how do we handle it when we get the "inappropriate" names?

What do you do when a PC named Mordenkainen sits at the table?
Khelbun The Blackstaff?
Obama The Wise?
Conan The Clumsy?
Richard Pett?
Tar Baphon?

Those are more outrageous than I think are realistic but I don't think it would be too surprising if someone made a PC named Vheod Runechild.
Or Rel.
Or Baylee Arnvold.
Or Aahz.

Honestly, I kinda want to create a Society PC named Tanis.

Liberty's Edge

I haven't noticed too many goofy names at game tables. Well, aside from the ones on my characters. ;-)

Scarab Sages 1/5

I think its ok as long as the Name is not offensive. I've seen more then one Bob the Barbarian and Melf the elven Ranger before.

As long as it is not offensive, I guess I don't really care. It is a little more difficult to get into the spirit of a fantasy game with a Bob the Barbarian or Darth Vader at the table. Luckily I do not see this often.

I have run a handful of games for kids, ages 8 to 14, and they tend to go for the iconic movie characters. In one game I almost had the entire cast from Lord of the Rings. They played them well though so it was still fun.

We have a barbarian at my local PFS named Raistlin... I just had to laugh at that.

Of course, we also have a character names "Herpaderp" and "Iron Man"... both are Synthesis Summoners, too.
