What is the Suggested Character Point buy or Die Roll Method for Carrion Crown?

Carrion Crown

The Exchange

I had my characters do a 15 point point buy, or they could chose to do a standard roll 4 D6 drop the lowest D and assign the stats as they liked, (but if they chose that route, they had to keep what the rolled, no going back to point buy if they didn't like that 6 in Str. :-P )

Anyway, I have searched the Adventure path, and can't seem to find a place where it recommends a Character build system and I was surprised that it wasn't right at the start in the forward or something...

I also have varying opinions at the table from the players some who want 'more points' and some 'the roll player' who like it just the way it is.

of course, I have full Veto power, but I kind of wanted to settle it by saying 'it's designed for... '

but alas, I can't find a 'character design document' other than to use the medium advancement XP track.

I'm I missing something? is it in there? or is this just something that the designers figured a GM would just know because he'd ran all the AP's before? (this happens to be my first Experience with Pathfinder... I'm loving it so far!)

Thanks,

zWolf.

The adventure paths are designed for 15point buy and 4PCs. Adjust accordingly.

If you have more PCs (I have 7!) you might want to consider increasing the outright XP rewards stated in the module (like when they achieve some research DC for Harrowstone, if they connect this or that with this plot element, etc - those all have outright "award the PCs Xxp").

For what it's worth, I did 20point buy but my players are seriously into role playing and these guys have dumped lots of skill points into things like craft cooking, perform oratory, flying, lots of strange stuff that doesn't directly benefit a character. We have a character who refuses to wear armor over his chest because he claims he likes the feeling of being able to move easily and not get sweaty :). So this guy's AC is pretty bad as such.

Scarab Sages

I did heroic (2d6+6 or 20pb), and the party is well rounded, but not steamrolling. So far their biggest problem was three frozen acolytes of the Temple returned as zombies (plus the cold spot) who the party unwittingly sent to their deaths...

Scarab Sages

I do the heroic point buy (20) and have a party of 4/5 (one player has health issues). It's worked well. I've only killed characters. I've tried the 15 point buy (both as a player and as a DM) and even playing smart, TPKs were often.

I've played with 25 points and 7 PCs. I've scaled up the encounters for the number of players (usually increasing numbers of foes), but I've not had to do so because of the point buy value.

Liberty's Edge

I have 5 players and we went with a 20 point buy system. It provided for decent characters, not super heroic, but not weak either. 15 seemed just a little low.
