Given the artwork, I would also expect to find them patrolling the halls of haunted extradimensional castles ruled by the daemon lord of vampires and/or eternal evil.

...because the picture totally looks like the axe armor enemies from a certain long-running video game series. Just saying. Giving them +1 returning throwing axes or greataxes is totally appropriate.

I especially like the picture that introduces the bestiary in the Haunting of Harrowstone. Flying severed heads are awesome, but surrounded by clockworks with a medusa head in the mix? Pure win. ;)
