Homebrew and House Rules

I enjoy the Kingmaker exploration rules, and find the system to be simple and easy to use.

Are there any changes that could be made?

Is there some way to better link the exploration and weather system together?

Is there anything missing in the system?

What about encounters, could they be better tied into the exploration mechanic?

I personally would like to have something that isn't just, "okay, like the last 12 hexes you take X amount of days to travel to the hex. You camp and start exploring the next day."

Having the weather system and random encounters be more involved would really spice things up. Yes, you are supposed to be rolling for weather and encounters anyway, but there is almost no real effect on exploration.

Here is my idea:
When the party enters a hex, weather and encounter tables are rolled on. Both will have an effect on the time it takes to cross or explore the hex. The encounter table should be expanded to include multiple tables, each with different types of encounters, along with a table for when the encounter happens. Not all encounters would be wandering monsters, but some will be events or challenges the party must overcome.

For example:
The party enters a hex, the weather is rolled up and it is rainy, increasing the time it takes to travel by a day. The encounter is rolled up, the first roll indicates a weather appropriate table, the rainy table roll indicates mud, and the time of day table indicates the encounter happens in the afternoon. The time to travel increases another day.

There could also be weather and encounter results that reduce the time to travel, though the time should never be less then a day.

Thoughts?
