I just got my download of the core rulebook, but none of the headings have any a's. I've downloaded it a couple of times but the BARBARIAN still comes out as B RB RI N. It's kind of lame.
My guess is that you are using a Mac with either an older OS or an older version of Adobe Reader. Update your software and it should be ok.

I have this problem with Preview, which is the default PDF viewer on a Mac. Try opening it with a different piece of software.

This is due to a problem in some PDF rendering engines. If you're using a Linux PDF reader, check for updates; it was fixed in many—perhaps even all—applications quite some time ago. The problem also exists in older versions of the PDF renderer used by Apple's iPad, iPhone, and iPod Touch; it was fixed in iOS 4.2 in November 2010. The problem still exists for people using Apple's Preview app under OS X 10.6; until Apple fixes the bug, 10.6 users can use Adobe Reader, which doesn't have this problem.
