Where do the races come from?

Lost Omens Campaign Setting General Discussion

From what I've gathered, this is what appears to be the case:

Elves and gnomes are natives of the First World, which is a place that exists aside Golarion. I'm not sure if it's a full other plane, or just a pocket of the Material Plane, or even just an otherworldly pocket of Golarion and not other planets.

Dwarves are Golarion natives, having spent the vast majority of their existence deep underground until their Quest for Sky. Orcs are natives in much the same way.

Humans are... what? It seems that they were either first developed by the aboleths, or developed by another race, but it looks like there was some other mortal race involved in their creation.

Halflings? No clue. Up there with gnolls and goblinoids in a lack of detail. Giants? Dragons? What?

I'm pretty sure elves are not from the first world — just gnomes. I might be wrong.

Yeah, I think elves come from another planet... though I might be a little off on that.

Most elves retreated to Sovyrian (or however you spell it) on the eve of Earthfall. It might be another planet, or it might be something more exotic.

Some people think they might have come from there originally, but I don't think it has ever officially been revealed whether or not this is true.

Humans: Come from Azlant. Where they came from BEFORE Azlant we haven't really said a lot for sure. Aboleths may have created them. Elder Things might have. They might have evolved from monkeys and apes. Might have been created by the gods. Or maybe something else.

Elves: From somewhere else... but NOT from the First World. They've been on Golarion long enough to be natives by this point, but chances of them being originally from another planet are very high.

Dwarves: From Nar-Voth in the Darklands. They were there for a long time, but where they came from originally we haven't revealed.

Halflings: I'm honestly not so sure. They're pretty sneaky and secretive. I wouldn't be surprised to see them still rubbing shoulders with humans back in Azlant though.

Gnomes: They're from the First World. Where they came from BEFORE that, we haven't said.

Half-Orcs/Half-Elves: From human/orc and human/elf pairings.

You'll note a recurring theme—while we can go pretty far back to see ancient homelands for several (but not all) races, we haven't nailed down specifically where these races originally were created/evolved from. That's on purpose. That's the type of thing only a GM should have the authority to decide.

That's what I've noticed, and well done, that. It does leave the humans to have possibly arrived from a number of different possibilities.

For a while now I've been thinking that like how Earth is an ant's world, we're just living on it, Golarion is the aboleth's world, it just has humans on the water-free peaks. Having thoughts about who might really, truly be Golarion native (dwarves, orcs) and those who are truly not (elves, gnomes) and those who are still up in the air (humans, halflings).

Thanks!

I'd certainly be surprised to see them rubbing shoulders with humans, unless the humans were sitting down. *rimshot*

The Cyclopes ruled most of Casmaron, Avistan, and Garund before the rise of Azlant. The giants are spawn of the gigas who are spawn of the titans who, self-reportedly, predate any mortal race.

Troglodytes had vast late neolithic empires (Think Sumerians and Akkadians) while the mammalian races were still huddling in caves and trying to master fire. The Serpentfolk ruled most of the world and had outposts on other worlds before that.

Aboleths and Elder Things had the place to themselves before that, and are, between the two races, probably responsible for most other life on Golarion.
