Once again, we're going to be offering FREE Hero Lab licenses at PaizoCon to all GMs running official games. These volunteers put in an immense amount of time and effort for the enjoyment of others, and we'd like to recognize that dedication. Simply stop by our booth in the Dealer Room during PaizoCon, present your badge for identification, and collect your "thank you" gift.
For GMs who already use Hero Lab, you're welcome to bequeath the free license to someone else - perhaps as a prize at the game you're running? - and we'll see what else we can come up with as a reward for you. :)
For all you Mac users who have been dealing with Fusion, Parallels, or VirtualBox to run Hero Lab, PaizoCon will mark an important milestone. We're going to be previewing the upcoming native Mac version of Hero Lab for the very first time. No, it's not quite ready for release, but it's almost finished. And PaizoCon attendees will be the first to see it in action!
Lastly, we've teamed up with Paizo to provide free character creation stations at PaizoCon. Stop by at any time to update your character in Hero Lab, print it out, and take it to your next game.
We're looking forward to seeing everyone again this year. Stop by the booth, say hello, and take a peek at everything Hero Lab can do.

I'm VERY interested in the Mac version! Where and when will you be previewing it? Will there be specific times or can we just stop by your booth whenever we have time?
Thanks!

We'll have the Mac version in the booth throughout the show, so stop by the Dealer Room anytime. We'll be running it side-by-side with the Windows version.

Rob, will content purchased under a PC license of Herolab transition to a Mac license?
Yes, but with one caveat. Our goal is to have there be no meaningful difference to users between Windows and Mac licenses, which would allow a license to be migrated across platforms if the user wants. However, we ran into a snag making this happen, and we're still trying to sort that out. If we don't manage to achieve that goal, then the licenses may end up having to be distinct between Mac and Windows. If that happens, we'll setup some sort of conversion process so users can migrate their licenses across when we officially release the Mac version. In either case, you definitely won't have to re-purchase any of the content again.

Rob, thanks for the clarification, I can go ahead off pick up some additional content packages without having to wait for the mac version.

Hello! For those official GMs like myself that forgot to pick up their license key at the con (oops ... was distracted by all the gaming, although I did spend a fair amount of time hanging with you guys!), is the offer still valid?
(I'm already fully licensed - sozinsky at gmail dot com - just looking for a license to try out on my Mac PC!)
Cheers

Since a number of GMs missed the announcement before the show and a few more forgot to stop by during the show, we're extending the offer after the show. We met with Hyrum after everything wrapped up and he said he would send all GMs a reminder email. I'm certain he's up to his eyeballs with post-show stuff (and maybe a few hours of catch-up sleep), so I'd be stunned if that email went out already.
If you were an official GM at PaizoCon, please send an email to me directly (rob at wolflair dot com). Include your full name as it appeared in the PaizoCon program and your license number (if you already have Hero Lab). If you do have Hero Lab, also let us know what add-on you'd like (maybe the new Ultimate Magic?) and we'll get that added to your license as a thank you instead.
In your specific case, have you used your free secondary license yet? If not, then go to the License email and use the option there to get a second license for use on your Mac. If you have, then we can grant another secondary license instead of a Pathfinder add-on package. Please note, however, that the native Mac version is not release yet, so you'd need to run under a VM in Windows at the current time.
Thanks!

Thanks!
Thank *you*. I was going to ask there about getting some of the additional material instead of another license, since I already had Hero Lab from last year. (I got the license, instead, and gave it to the one guy in my gaming group who hadn't already purchased it yet :)
Maybe next year, I'll go for additional content instead.
Are you planning on making an iPad version? :)
And, since I'm here, just out of curiousity, any plans on adding Dragon Age (or CthulhuTech for that matter!) to the systems?
I know you can't add everything, but the Dragon Age tabletop game seems to be increasingly popular.
Or, and this would be awesome, a native Linux client?
At any rate, thanks! Great software - my only regret is that I didn't know how easy it was to create an official Pathfinder Society character with it *before* the con.

Are you planning on making an iPad version? :)
Absolutely. The native Mac version is being developed with that in mind. Once it's complete, the iPad will follow.
And, since I'm here, just out of curiousity, any plans on adding Dragon Age (or CthulhuTech for that matter!) to the systems?
We seriously explored support for DragonAge. We have a great relationship with Green Ronin and they wanted it to happen, but BioWare was reluctant and we concluded it was going to be an onerous task to navigate the licensing process and subsequent approvals process.
For Cthulhutech, the folks at Wildfire have said they absolutely want us to support the game. However, the game is streamlined enough that we've wrestled with whether there is a compelling need for something sophisticated like Hero Lab. At the end of the day, we need to sell enough copies to justify the development costs.
Right now, we're up to our eyeballs with Pathfinder, Shadowrun, and Realm Works. So both of those games are serious contenders for "what's next", but we won't be able to launch into anything new until after GenCon. We plan on meeting with multiple companies at GenCon (including Green Ronin and Wildfire) to nail down the next wave of game systems for Hero Lab, and you can monitor our announcements by following our monthly newsletter.
Or, and this would be awesome, a native Linux client?
That's not something we have planned, nor is it something we foresee in the next year. Hero Lab works alright under WINE, and the cost to develop a native Linux client just doesn't look like it will sell enough units to justify that cost.
