On the corner of the busy city street a crier calls out,
"Listen Everyone!
Are you tired of your mundane lives?
Tired of scratching out a living here in this city?
Do you want to see new and exciting places?
Do you hunger for adventure and danger?
Then the Order of the Broken Spear is looking for you!
The Order is looking for people to serve on their sailing vessel as they explore the Isles of the Lost.
The Order needs people that can handle themselves in a fight.
They need people that can help those that are injuried or sick.
They need people with experience handling a ship in dangerous waters.
Don't have any training? Don't worry, you can learn while you scrub the decks.
Here is your opportunity to go out and see lands no one has ever explored before.
To see beauties and beasts undreamed of.
So if you want to live of life of high adventure, go to the Albino Orca down at the docks and apply.
They will be looking for workers for the next several days,
but don't wait too long, you might miss your chance at a life of destiny."

Applications initially taken until: 5/24/11 at 11:59 PM Eastern
Set-Up: The Order of the Broken Spear, a heroic group of adventurers, is about to set sail for the uncharted lands of the Isles of the Lost. This promises to be an exciting adventure, but they need a ship and a crew to aid them. The Order has thus hired the Albino Orca, a ship captained by a half-elf by the name of Sander Two-Edged. A fair portion of the Albino's crew has left the ship, fearing to go into the Isles of the Lost, a dangerous region of the seas that is believed to be haunted and worse. Thus Captain Two-Edged has decided to recruit some replacement workers from the local (and probably naive) people. And this is where you come in. You're just an average shmoe looking to get some excitement, and this is your chance. But don't worry, you won't be taking on the evil Necromancers, that is the job of the Order. You will instead have to deal with clean up, perhaps fight off a few wandering zombies and such. It is not a noble calling, but hey, somebody has to do it.

*bump*

this is a great idea! sign me up. Thinking human commoner or aristo..
will have more info soon. Need to ponder.

Scratch that halfling commoner. I haven't played one of the hairy buggers in a dogs age.

This sounds like it could be interesting. I'll have to think on it.

Toe Jam, Goblin Adept
Stats: 10, 11, 10, 8, 13, 8
Alignment: Chaotic Neutral

Not the brightest bulb in the pack, he was a bit of a headache to his tribe, as somehow he had developed an aberrant, to the goblins at least, conscience, go so far as to question the wisdom of eating their own tribe members, so the head shaman sent Toe Jam out on made up vision quest that would supposedly prove to the world that goblins weren't as bad as people think they are. Not having any success and being slow on the uptake, Toe Jam has taken to working on the docks in hopes of receiving a vision of his own while he struggles to get by. While he sees little long term value in signing up for the expedition, it gives him a pay check, and who knows, he might actually learn something on the trip on top of that.

Consider me in!

Pentor Lionsmane
Human Aristocrat
St:13, Dex:12, Con:11, Cha:10, Wis:9, Int:8
HPs:, Alignment: Lawful Good

Pentor Lionsmane was born to noble parents and raised in a world of luxury and wealth. Trained in some of the finest duelling academies in the city Pentor was a middling duelist at best, with brawling more to his style.

He learnt the art of sailing aboard the sailing vessel that his father owned, which he proved to be much more adept at. However that all came to an end when he decided that he was going to pursue the life of an adventurer against the wishes of his parents and signed on with Albino Orca in search of adventure!

Looking interesting folks.

A couple of things about Toe Jam, I think his Con should be 11, right? And does he get his power from a deity? and if so, which one?

So it should. He gets his power from the nature spirits worshiped by his tribe, who supposedly sent him out on a quest to prove himself and goblins everywhere in order to earn his proper goblin name, but have yet to manifest themselves in any way except through his spells.

Enter Zochel the Loser.

Youngest of the twenty children in the Littledown clan. Zochel earned his nickname by never winning a game of chance. Not cards not dice not anything. If he was on your team you were sure to lose. He was a jonah and a schlub.

Until that night. He shouldn't have been in the bar. He shouldn't have been drinking. He shouldn't have joined in the card game, and he certainly should not have won all that gold off the stranger in the black robe.

The next few days were good for Zochel. He paid people back, he bought new clothes. He was happy. Except he kept seeing the man in black. At the forge when he went for a new chisel, at the general store while buying some plaster, at the bakery, at the tobacconists, even at his brother's cobblers shop! The man in black was looking for him!

Zochel needed to get out of town fast and he needed not to leave a trail. The Orca offered his best chance. He signed up on the first day with a great sigh of relief.

Then he saw the man in the black robe. He was a member of the Broken Spear. Zochel was trapped on the Orca with the man who was hunting him.

Zotchel had lost again.

note. No one is hunting Zochel. 300 gold is a fortune for a level one commoner and pocket change for an established adventurer.

Question for you Storyteller. I love the idea of playing a commoner but I am rather concerned that a d4HP may make this a short campaign.

Suggestions?

Maybe take Toughness.

I would also recommend picking a longspear or crossbow as your weapon your proficient in.

No worries, we don't need to have a full party.

Sovereign Court

I’m interested, here’s my idea.

An Orc Expert (if that’s not allowed I can do commoner) that goes by the name of Fishhook!

How he became Fishhook:

He doesn't remember how he got on Capt. Hargen's boat he just remembers being on it. The crew bullied and ordered the orc around the fishing vessel. At first he was called hey you until one of the crew drew back on his fishing pole to much and sinked his big old hook into the young orcs cheek. The orc cried out in pain and the whole crew laughed. The Captain came up to the orc and said "Aye lad we landed you a name FISHHOOK! Seeing the crew acknowledge him and the captain actually gave him a name Fishhook refused to let the sailors pull out the hook. As the years past Fishhook was happy with his simple life of fishing then going to the port cities to sell and drink. The crew started too actually like him around. Life was good for him at this time until; while they were out at sea a freak storm came upon them. It tossed the little ship around like it was a toy, and lighting struck the ship. As the ship blew apart Fishhook just could remember hearing his friend’s screams. The big orc was able to cling onto a piece of driftwood, he awoke on the beach a few miles from a town (the one were recruited on didn't see a name). As the years started to past the orc, has been trying to be part of another crew like his former, but is rejected for being a full blood orc. Until he heard of the calling from the Order of the broken spear and Fishhook gladly accepted the offer!

I'm still keen!

Just let me know when we kick off and I'm there!

Well, we'll go with you folks. Maybe others will be added later, I'm sure there are plenty of other Schmoes on the crew.
I believe this is the current characters:
Toe Jam = goblin adept
Pentor Lionsmane = human aristocrat
Zochel the Loser = halfling commoner
Fishhook = Orc Expert

When you have your character ready, report to the deck to be given your assignments as the Albino Orca makes preparations to set sail.

I would recommend setting up an OOC thread as well, where we can discuss details of our characters and any questions/comments we have for each other that aren't directly game related.
