Is this a Source Book, and Adventure Path, or what?

It is the new campaign setting for the 3rd edition of the rules, the way that Freedom City was the primary setting for the 1st and 2nd edition rules. And in the same way they did with Freedom City, they will be releasing sourcebooks and adventures set in Emerald City.

Well darn.

I had heard rumors that someone was going to publish an actual AP for Mutants & Masterminds, so I thought that this might have been it.

Maybe it was just a rumor. :(

There's an adventure by Green Ronin for sale on Drivethru which seems to be the first pay adventure in a series set in Emerald City. Searching for Emerald City Knights (I'm not sure about protocol for providing links to competitor's sites) should turn it up. The page also has a download link for the free 'Chapter 0' adventure. Whether it turns into a real adventure path is something I guess we'll have to wait and see about.

"Emerald City Knights" is a 6 part (I believe) 'Adventure Path' for M&M 3E. So far, there's been Episode 0, 1 and 2 released. The rest should be released over the next few weeks.

"Emerald City" looks to be a setting sourcebook detailing Emerald City and the surrounding area. I believe it's due out around Gen Con.

That is the problem.

It appears that Green Ronin is/was stuck in the mindset that "rules sell" and that "adventures do not."

It was five years between 2nd and 3rd. That's not a grossly short amount of time by any means.

Besides, the rules do seem to to sell for the.

In this case, of course, it is because of the DC licence.

But, it is still too fast; ten years would be a better window. Coming out with rules too quickly can cause edition wars.

"The" what? Your sentence is unfinsihed.

I'm not sure what the DC licence has anything to do with anything, sorry.

I personally believe that ten years between editions is way too long, but that doesn't really matter, nor should it. All that matters is the way the game is selling, and if it's selling they did something right.

Call of Cthulhu comes out with some sort of a new edition nearly every two years on average, so speed of editions have little to do with edition war silliness.
I hate to be the one that says it but editions don't really cause edition wars, the people that argue about them do.

"Them". The sentence was finished, just missing a letter.
