hey guys and gals,
(Please, no spoilers)
I would like to play a two-handed weapon wielding fighter type in this new SS campaign starting next week.
now according to the players companion for the AP, I should stick away from heavy armors. so I started making a two-handed fighter from the APG. seeing as how I didnt need to wear heavy armor I figured that I could do away with the armor training in favor of the other bonuses.
we are doing a 20pt build (at least, may be 25). and I didn't care for the way it came out. considering I wasn't going to brick out on AC, I went for light armor to max out my speed. but that left me with a 16 ac, and I just didnt care for it at all. I was wondering what sage advice I may be able to garner from the forums here.
my stat layout was as follows:
str-14
dex-14
con-14
int-13
wis-12
cha-10
I went with human (stat boost to str). with combat exp, imp trip, and wpn focus. I would love some advice. also I am not limited to the fighter, though I would prefer to be a two-handed type with the fighters BAB progression.
Thanks guys.

Depending on how your GM handles loot in the campaign, I would advice against taking Weapon Focus. You should talk to your GM about this. If he intends to stick with the loot as written and allow little magic item economy or crafting, you should avoid WF. On the other hand, if he allows you to get one through shopping/crafting or tweaks the loot, it's no problem.

I am going to disagree and say take weapon focus. A +1 to hit is mathematically seems small, but all of those pluses add up.
Take the knock on speed and bump you AC. Later try to get mithral breastplate
Str 16 (18 after human stat bonus)
Con 14
Dex 12(You should have Full Plate eventually, and try to get mithal fullplate later at which point your dex can be higher.
Int 9
Wis 12
Cha 12
Feel free to change int and charisma
1 Weapon Focus
1 Cleave(take with the fighter bonus feat so you can trade it out later)
1 Iron Will
I would also take dodge later on if your AC is still not too your liking.
The weapon master archetype is better IMHO.
The handbook is saying stay away from heavy armor because it is assuming you won't have access to a lot of things like you do in many games. At level 9 the party wizard has access to teleport. If the party has no wizard or sorc then someone might have UMD. Try to get a scroll of teleport or two if possible so you can get to a major city.

As discussed in an earlier thread, this depends entirely on play style. I agree that with full teleport and magic item economy, Weapon Focus and Full Plate is the way to go. But Clammy's GM might have a more restrictive approach to magic economy and/or teleporting, and in that case it's important that they discuss it and come up with a solution both can enjoy. This is more important in SS than in other APs, as there are very few enemies in SS that drop what you might call "standard fighter loot".

Heavy armor can also be a problem due to heat. Unless you have magic to relieve the heat, the GM may impose penalties (like heat exhaustion) to individuals. I know that I impose them.
Jungle is difficult terrain, so you may want to look at traits or feats that allow you to ignore difficult terrain.

Thanks for the replies everyone.
My problem with not taking wpn focus is that I can't take wpn specialization at 4th.
I actually like your stat layout wraith, though I do think I would swap cha and int for the extra skill point and language.
I guess I will go for medium armor and drop my dex down a bit. I can always up it later.
I'll look at this and post any other issues that may arise.
Thanks again,
Clammy.
