So my gaming group plays every other Saturday for about 8 hours and we had a split session this week as we finished Race to the ruins SS AP 2
Once we finished we started in on Harrowstone. missing 2 players but had 5 to play
The party consisted of
Firemain Orchammer - Dwarf Cleric of Torag that spoke like Sean Connery on the SNL Jeopardy parody
Malachi Stonebender - Dwarf Monk
Raenulf Vinterkrage 1/2 Dhampir Inquisitor
Iria Savannah - Human Paladin of Iomedae
Sir Gauthier Albrecht - Human Cavalier
Missing was the groups wizard and rogue as the players had other obligations
I then printed out the pictures of Kendra, the councilman, and Father Grimburrow. This gave them a better visual of who they where talking with and was nicer that holding up the book or a laptop.
We have a group board that we all post to for information and other stuff, and I had posted a little document that gave the players some more flaver to when they arrived in Ravengro (You can see the post somewhere in the CC threads)
When the adventure started the inquisitor started off by giving his condolances to Kendra and briefly introducing himself to her and the other's gather. Once this was done, the party took up the casket and was led my Kendra to the grave site.
As the party saw the thugs and words started to be said, and before the combat started, they all agreed to gently set the casket down preventing any harm coming to the body inside and in my eye's preventing any loss of trust, in fact I see it more as a gaining of trust as they did it with up most respect. So I award the group 1 pt.
The party took up a stance infront of Kendra and the thugs but kept quite until Kendra made her final comment about her father. As the thugs moved to attack, The Paladin in the group used her Diplomacy and stopped the situation before it could turn ugly and people getting hurt.
Once te thugs disperced, the party preceeded to the grave site and lay the good professor to rest. The group each spoke nice words and the Monk and Inquisators words where moving gaining the party 1pt of trust. Tey had a laugh as the gruff speaking Sean Connery impersonated dwarf tossed in a mummified orc hand and explained it to all that he had been sending the Professor mummified orc parts since they had last met for him to study. it was a good laugh and some odd faces made or GROSS.
They headed back to Kendra's house and sat having a drink explaining to Kendra how they had meet her father and getting to know each other. After 1 hour the Councilman showed up to read the will to the party and each knew he did not care for them being a part of what he deemed as Ravengro affairs.
Withthe will read the cavalier helped kendra fetch the chest and then started reading. Many questions where asked about the Professor and his wife and past and how he died, who found him, where at etc... Kendra answered what she could and the party hide the chest as the cavalier kept tryng toi get the party to take it to his oder to protect. The party decided it was better with them and no one else knowing until needed.
As the Cavalier and Paladin had mounts and the Sean Connery Dwarf a mule, the Cavalier and Paladin took the horse to the stables. The wind was blowing outside and the cavalier heard as he was walking back a voice in the wind that said "You are going to fail" The paladin next to him did not hear it as the Cavalier ran back in a panic and insisted the box with the books be checked right away. The party decided to keep a watch on the box all night in random shifts. The inqisator spent time studing and found some information of the Whispering Way
As they all awoke, they awoke to Kendra fixing them breakfast. I think the inquisator and possibly the cavalier where starting to admire Kendra and her kindness and looks. With breakfast ate, they headed into town and head the little girls skipping rope. No one paid it much attention but they did get the little girls just to look at them oddly but not frighten them or try to speak to them. The Sean Connery speaking dwarf found it disturbing and funny how only that player tied it to something going on because he knew the skip rope ryhmm of Lizzy Bordon.
The party split as the Inquisator went to the Demom and the rest to Father Grimburrow. The inquisator got some information but not much and most was already known. He did over hear of the blood on the Harrowstone memorial statue then relayed this to his party once he got back with them The group that went to Father Grimburrow ran into a dead end as the diplomacy checks failed.
The party then sent the Sean Connery sounding dwarf to the Scroll and paid the 10GP and got little information there as well. All the while the dwarf monk kept buggering the party to check out The Restlands so they relented.
Breaking up to individuals, they each took a path. Part way in the Paladin was suddenly attacked by undead but before the rest got to her, she had them easily destroyed. They located the false tob but did not enter deciding to get their cleric and wait until darkness.
The inquisator asked Kendra where the memorial to Harrow stone then asked who's house was near. He found it to be Gibs home, but did not investigate this day.
As night fell, the party headed for the temple. Having no rogue with them, the cleric took to banging on the door with his hammer, but it was the Monk who found the lock destroyed and the door easily opened. Once inside they followed foot prints into the crypt and as they where just getting eady to open it, they where setup by the centipedes. The two dwarves easily dispatched them with no loss or anyone hurt. Once they found the items they took their find back to Kendra's home.
kendra welcomed them with a good meal and they found she was not just some normal run of the mill villager, but a wizard as she went to work Identifing some of the items. They headed to bed and when they awoke in the morning they found breakfast waiting and more of the items identified.
We then stopped for the night as our game session was at an end with belly's filled with home cooked BBQ cheese burgers,, pork and beans and chips. We always have a good meal be it home made pizza, sloppy joes, taco's backed chicken, or other.
The monk posted in his journel he found kendra to be the perfect hostess and worth more than many people he had met.
We meet again in 2 weeks

I've got a pretty big group about to tackle this AP too. Be sure to tweak the encounters for more players. Up the hp's to give a good challenge and add more monsters to keep the XP totals in line.

I do up the HP, but as far as ore monsters, last weeks group was only 1 person more i.e. 5 instead of 4. Next session I will have more and will increase the amount of beasties. Not to mention I also award a few XP for great RP and for journels posted on our group forum, and for other.
The DM that runs SS does the same and in most cases with upped HP, he sometimes almost have TPK because we don't fight well togather which is a character issue not a player issue.
We are also using Fast progression so this helps keep it in check

For a long time my group has used extra xp for exceptional roleplaying but I find it spreads the groups levels out too much over time. I'm thinking of revamping the Extraordinary XP award into more of a in game boon system. Still pondering on how considering we'll be using the Harrow point system as well.
