Tornado Relief for Victims of Arkansas Tornado

Off-Topic Discussions

I'm not sure if this is the right forum to post this, but if you've seen the news lately the tiny Arkansas town I live in (Vilonia) was hit really hard by a tornado Monday night. Dozens of homes and businesses were destroyed, and many families lost everything. If you're interested in helping, please contact the Red Cross and tell them you're calling in regard to Faulkner County or Vilonia, Arkansas.

Help is definitely needed. I have heard from one friend in Alabama and hope to hear from another soon.

Yep, we just got pounded down here. I'm in Hoover, so the bad stuff kept passing north and south of my house, but I've got friends in Tuscaloosa and Cullman, which both look to have taken major damage. Pleasant Grove is the closest to my house, but I don't think I know anyone there. Lots of trees down all over the place blocking roads, and we lost power for about half the day when the first line came through earlier today.

Power has been restored to most of the area in and around Vilonia, but the National Guard is on duty here because of cowardly, piece of s*** looters.

Man, that sucks! They've activated the Guard here as well, but for clean-up from what I've seen so far. Aren't you folks in Arkansas as heavily armed as the typical Alabamian? Or is that just Texas? (hoping some levity can still work it's way into the devastation...)

And I found out I actually do know folks in Pleasant Grove as well. They're safe but without power at present. We won't know more on damage and fatalities until daybreak, I'm sure. I've waited out the nasty stuff, and so am heading to bed.

Oh, and as one story of hope, my aunt actually lost her entire house to a tornado about ten years back. The community came together and cleared the site, built them a new house (complete with storm shelter!), and bought them all new clothes and such. It was definitely an awesome thing to see their community pull together like that.

I feel your pain. Our neighborhood was destroyed by the tornadoes that hit NC last week. Fortunately, we didn't have any looting. The Fayetteville PD were all over it. They weren't letting anybody into the neighborhood except residents. We were very fortunate that we didn't have any damage to our own house. I posted about it here: The Most Dangerous Dame of Pathfinder Ever Played.

Yeah, we are. The only drug store here in town actually sells guns, too. Really.
