While still a young song, I quite enjoy Peter Bjorn and John's Young Folks, and this bluegrass cover by Dawn Landis is equally as good.

Thank you.

There are soooo many cover versions of songs I like it's hard to begin. I'll just throw out a few:

"Rock and Roll All Night" by KISS covered by Toad the Wet Sprocket
"Hallowed Be Thy Name" by Iron Maiden covered by Solitude Aeturnus
"Fool for your Lovin'" by Whitesnake covered by Jorn
"Suspicious Minds" by Elvis Presley covered by Dwight Yoakum
"Because the Night" by Patti Smith/Bruce Springsteen covered by Keel
"The Chain" by Fleetwood Mac covered by Taking Dawn
"Separate Ways" by Journey covered by We Are The Fallen
"Needles and Pins" by Dusty Springfield covered by the Ramones
"Flight of Icarus" by Iron Maiden covered by We Are The Fallen
"Ol' 55" by Tom Waits covered by The Eagles (also love Sarah McLachlan's cover of the same)

There. Just a few. I think I need to compile these into a cd for my vehicle...

Beautiful South has recorded some great covers:

Everybody's Talking, orginally by Harry Nilsson

From Grease, You're the One That I Want

This Old Skin, originally by a group called Die Apfelbaum

Livin' Thing, originally by Electric Light Orchestra

The Punch Brothers do a mean bluegrass cover of Radiohead's Kid A.

And Radiohead in turn cover Björk's Unravel.

Paizo Employee Director of Narrative

Oooh. That reminds me. Dirty Projectors cover Björk's "Hyperballad"

Five Finger Death Punch covers Bad Company by Bad Company - Bad Company (actual song)

Ooks of Hazzard bluegrass cover of MGMT's Kids

Rollins Band tearing up Zeppelin's Four Sticks

KJ--

Good performance. Nilsson did the hit version that was in Midnight Cowboy, but the song was originally by a folkie cult artist named Fred Neil who also did the song "Dolphins" that Billy Bragg covered.

FN was a real nutjob, who, if I remember correctly, quit music on the verge of reaching a wider audience, emigrated to Cuba and spent the rest of his life playing with dolphins. Actually, I take it back: he doesn't sound like a nutjob at all! EDIT: Well, actually, it was Florida. Pfft. I was off by only 100 miles.

I risk being accused of pedantry because I remembered that you like Billy Bragg.

KJ--

European radio must be much different than American radio.

I can't believe you didn't include this.

And I'll bring Black Box Recorder doing Althea & Donna to the party.

BBR! \o/

Also, welcome to Seattle, PaizoCon folks! Luka Bloom covering The Waterboys' "This Is the Sea."

You pedantry is not just forgiven, it's appreciated.

As for why I didn't include that one - I'd already included 25% of the songs on that album. Has to be a limit even for great stuff.

But yeah, their version of Don't Fear the Reaper is bloody good.

Of course, Beautiful South singer Paul Heaton has got priors on doing covers

Here's Housemartins doing an Isley Brothers number Bonus points for anyone who can spot the future superstar-DJ in the band without reading the comments.

And another of my favourites, Ms Thea Gilmore (she's pals with Neil Gaiman, so you know she's cool).

Ever Fallen in Love with Someone, originally by the Buzzcocks.

I'm Not Down, originally by The Clash.

You Spin Me Right Round, originally by Dead Alive.

And finally:
Rock el Casbah!

Anyone actually remember who did the original of this one?

The Housemartins...now I remember who The Beautiful South are.

Like all good things, Norman Cook's decision to leave the band was fuelled by...drugs!

One hit of MDMA transformed him from sullen, moping indie Brit into one-man-party sensation Fat Boy Slim!

Isn't T&S an Isley Brothers song, too?

I love bonus points!

Oh, I didn't realize they were from the same album.

At any given time, somewhere in the USA, Blue Oyster Cult is on the radio.

Irish punk legends The Undertones do sixties California Stones-clones The Chocolate Watch Band.

Warning: CWB link has many scantily-clad burlesque dancers! Might induce a visit to your bunk!

*Ctrl-F Dope*

*none found*

Thread I am disappoint

Arguments rage about who did THIS this little delightful dittymashup of Sublime and 311 and then some.

The Tea Party doing Paint It Black

Personally, I like Karel Gott's version.

The Clash do The Equals

Liberty's Edge

Anything this guy does.

He does violin covers of top 40s songs.

Neil Diamond does an amazing MR bojangles cover

In honour of Clarence Clemons: Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band gets in a festive mood

More Bruce. Not so festive, though.

Spoiler:
If this was Troll Town, I'd write: Bruce Springsteen hates America!

Some Kirsty MacColl doing Billy Bragg and the Kinks

And while we're at it, she also did a mean cover of a song by the Smiths

Säkert does Wannadies

How about good versions of mediocre songs?

I point you to The District doing Katy Perry's Firework.

Billy Bragg tells an anecdote about The Housemartins before he plays a song by The Smiths.

Bow before my google-fu!

They Might Be Giants- Istanbul Not Constantinople
Fishbone- Freddie's Dead
John Coltrane- My Favorite Things
Colonel Les Claypool's Fearless Flying Frog Brigade- Animals (entire Pink Floyd album)
The Flaming Lips and Stardeath and White Dwarfs with Henry Rollins and Peaches- Dark Side of the Moon (entire Pink Floyd album)

The Muppets do Randy Newman.

Ike and Tina do the best rock band the United States ever produced.

I feel a cover chain coming on...

CCR does Little Richard - Good Golly Miss Molly
Little Richard does the Stones - Brown Sugar
The Rolling Stones do Marvin Gaye - Can I get a witness

I should stop now.

For the mp3 impaired:

Good Golly Miss Molly
Brown Sugar (and let me say, WTF!?!)
Can I Get a Witness?

Viva Vox Choir doing Du Hast by Rammstein.

Liberty's Edge

Aerosmith as Future Villan Band do the Beatles Come Together

1 person marked this as a favorite.

The Yardbirds, in Michelangelo Antonioni's masterpiece Blowup, doing Johnny Burnette and the Rock'n'Roll Trio, but with different words for copyright reasons.

Yeah, Aerosmith later did it, too.

I'm a big WASP fan, and they've covered quite an impressive list of songs that I really like, such as

"Paint it Black" by the Rolling Stones
"Locomotive Breath" by Jethro Tull
"The Real Me" by The Who
"Somebody to Love" by Jefferson Airplane
"Mississippi Queen" by Mountain

There are some others, though at the moment they escape me. Also, my favorite cover BAND is Rock Sugar. Their cd "Re-Imaginator" is nothing but mashed-up covers and is great!!!

I love Polyphonic Spree's cover of Lithium. It's the manic to the depressive side of the original.

The Futureheads do Kate Bush.

PJ Harvey does Bob.

The Divine Comedy does Noel Coward.

Okay, yeah, that's officially awesome on all counts.

Sophie Madeleine
covering Foster the People

The Divine Comedy do William Wordsworth.

Jimmy Cliff does The Clash.

Miles Fisher covering Talking Heads as the American Psycho

Scarab Sages

Twilight Guardians cover La Isla Bonita by Madonna

And who could forget the greatest cover ever, Christopher Walken "singing" Lady Gaga's Poker Face
