Abnormal Cities in a Blighted World

Homebrew and House Rules

I am running a game where the PC will be traveling between towns. The land between towns is a blighted wasteland, with mutated creatures and warped laws of nature. Each town will be unique and have a wall or barrier around it. Here are a few ideas I have already.

Undead City
City full of undead
The barrier is a black line in the earth, its turns out to be Shadows.

Clockwork City
Steam Punk City
The barrier is a clock work wall full of gears.

Temporal City
Modern Day City... With Elves!
The barrier is a shimmering film over the city, when players walk through its like modern day New York

OZ
Bubble city
The whole city is covered in a green sphere of energy similar to Force Wall.

Any one else have ideas? I could use them.

A city devoted to Illusions, the barrier being a simple 'leap of faith'.

Cathedral City
The whole place is populated exclusively by religious orders worshipping a particular deity
The barrier is a huge magical circle maintained by constant prayer.

The City That Is Not There
A university city ruled by powerful wizards
It's built inside a giant version of rope trick, the rope being a ladder inside a small mundane fortress.

The City of Pain
Built where the abyss leaks into the natural world. It's evil, but content to focus its evil internally. Mortals and fiends co-exist peacefully inside.
The creatures and even the inanimate phenomena of the wastes keep away out of fear and revulsion.

The Great Lake
A city of underwater fey living in harmony with nature.
The lake's crystal waters cannot be touched by corruption.

Bastion
A militarised city.
They keep out the waste through sheer human effort and force of arms, fighting off monsters, digging, burning aberrant plant life and simply enduring the abnormal fluctuations in natural law.
