Savith's companions? *Possible spoilers*

Serpent's Skull

In book 6, Sanctum of the Serpent God, the Savith's legend knowledge history chart says that Savith had a group of trusted companions follow her into the heart of Ilumrea to slay Ydersius, an Azlanti wizard, an Azlanti Priest of Desna, a Cyclops general (Aveshai), a lizardfolk chieftain, and the king of a tribe of warriors.

I was just curious if any of these had been developed during the development of the Serpent's Skull adventure path. Potentially, if my players are able to get inside Savith's crypt, I was thinking of including statues of each of her companions with a name plate and description of them.

Obviously a lot of work goes into creating an adventure, and obviously not every detail gets fully developed let alone makes it into the final book. It's one of the things that caught my eye, and if it was something that was left out due to page restrictions and what not, I for one, would love to see what the team came up with.

I don't see why statues of someone else would be in your crypt? Doesn't seem to makes much sense.

I was thinking of looking at it like they are acting as a sort of guardians or watchers of the crypt. Being some of her closest friends they had smaller statues placed inside to ever watch over their fallen comrade.

Also, I have decided yet, but they may come to life as golems with class abilities that her actual companions had to attack when a non-Azlanti entered the chamber.

Short answer: No, not really.

Considerably longer, more speculative answer (properly spoilered):

Spoiler:

In Aveshai's backstory, it mentions he discovered a serpentfolk assassin (i.e., a Coil of Ydersius) among Savith's inner circle. It was a wizard masquerading as an Azlanti human female. He chased this wizard into the Hunter's Maze where he slew her, but not before she activated the stasis field which trapped them both. So, with that in mind, you can probably assume that explains the Azlanti wizard mentioned as one of Savith's "trusted" companions.

It's further assumed at least a couple of the other companions (i.e., the lizardfolk chieftain and king of a tribe of warriors) came from the cultures living within the Mwangi Jungle all those years ago. These are people Savith recruited to her army in order to march on Ilmurea. And, lastly, considering Savith chose to venture from Azlant to seek out Ydersius and the serpentfolk stronghold, I think you could assume the Azlanti priest of Desna probably came with her.

As for Aveshai, I always envisioned him as something of an adventurer. Maybe he was from Casmaron and journeyed to Azlant where he met and befriended Savith? Or, I believe the Inner Sea World Guide also mentions something about an offshoot of the ancient cyclops civilization reaching into Garund. Aveshai could easily have been associated with them. Regardless, he was a fighting machine in the old days...with a lust for battle and an eagerness to defeat the serpentfolk in every conflict. He, and his kind, made for useful and powerful allies to the Azlanti.

Lastly, as for what happened after Savith's death, obviously, her remaining companions (i.e., the Desnan priest, the lizardfolk chieftain, and native warrior-king) built Saventh-Yhi in tribute to her triumph over the snake-god. Presumably, the Desnan priest would have moved on after that (their priesthood is the traveling sort, after all)...or maybe the priest went back to report Savith's success to rest of the Azlanti empire? Meanwhile, the lizardfolk chieftain and native warrior-king probably went back to their tribes...or, more likely, they brought their tribes to Saventh-Yhi and settled there to safeguard against a return of the serpentfolk in Ilmurea. I think it's particularly likely the warrior-king would have done that. And, he probably played host to other Azlanti who came to Saventh-Yhi to pay their respects at Savith's tomb.

My two cents,

I enjoyed those ideas, thanks Neil. Food for thought.

the tribe of the sacred serpent could be the descendents of the warrior king and his people? I know there was earthfall and all, but grass skirt types tend to be like coackroaches when it comes to surviving cataclysms.
