Got to try out a one-shot of it last weekend. I really like the system - quick and easy char-gen, a pretty simple mechanic to cover both attacks and skills at the same time, and a neat crit system.
Some observations...
-Combat is pretty bloody early on - attacks rarely miss, so it is largely a war of attrition, and choosing tactics wisely.
-Some spells felt a lot more potent than others. One mage took Vulnerability Hex and Winter's Grasp, planning to use the first one to soften enemies up for the second spell. Not a bad plan... except that, in most cases, just casting Winter's Grasp twice would be much more effective. Especially since enemies would often die before she could use the combo, or she would have to spend that second turn healing someone.
-One player was a bit saddened by the limitations on customizability - weapon options are pretty clearly limited by class, for example. Still, hard to avoid that without unbalancing the system or the like, and it keeps characters distinct in the same fashion as the video game.
I ran the adventure from the starting box, which wasn't too exciting. But given the setting, coming up with adventures probably won't be the tricky part.
