Sorry to hold things up. I would let you read it if I could.

Arbot frowns at the question of helping on the boat.

"I'll do anything you want to make this dinghy go faster and get off of it in one piece at the end. Now I'd appreciate a place to set my packs down as well. How soon are we leaving?"

Dear leader:
I am assuming the Message worked. Casting again targeting Arbot and Pallo, and if there is still no reaction from the cap' and crew, cast again for dear daggard

Arbot & Pallo:
A soft and somehow invasive whisper slides into your ears. "It's Alfonso. Don't react. This is a trap. The captain of the Neveresere is named Morwhin, not the first mate. Stay together eat nothing."

Daggard:
A soft and somehow invasive whisper slides into your ears. "It's Alfonso. Don't react. This is a trap. The captain of the Neveresere is named Morwhin, not the first mate. Stay together eat nothing."

Alfonse stands up and turns away from his pack, a small glass vial in his hand.

"Aha knew I had this somewhere." With that he opens the vial and takes a deep breath with the vial held close to his face. The pungent odor of sal volatile temporarily drives off the captain’s animal smell. Alfonse quickly closes the vial and drops it into a belt pouch.

"Much better!" Alfonse takes another deep breath his sense of smell clearly stunned by the salts.

"Now lead on oh Captain my Captain, we 'miserable pukes' as you so rightly name us will be more that happy to see our 'cabins' and enjoy the 'awesome' bread you mentioned. At least I think it was 'bread' you dialect is rather thick, it may have been offal. The words are quite similiar in vulgar Infernal."

Note to listeners the words 'cabins', 'awesome' and 'bread' are said with so much scarcasm dripping off them you think it might leave a clean spot on the deck.

Note: I have no idea if there is such a thing as "Vulgar Infernal." I'm betting he doesn't either.

the captain picks himself off the deck, and suddenly its persona changes. the creature stands to its full height, almost seeming to gain a few inches. it squares its shoulders back, thrusting out its chest, its hands, which were very slender, now are curled into fists and you can see a hint of what was fingernails, is now talons. looking into its face, you see a definitive male form appear, with a strong jaw, and eyes so green that they are almost yellow. when he speaks, his accent is gone, and has a very gutteral gravely tone.
looking dagaard squarely in the eye, he growls aye, i know its treason to kill a hellknight. but, those privleges are for full fledged hellknights. NOT an armiger. i could cut you in twain and feed you to the sharks, and all i would get is a slap on the wrist.

So players are on a raised afterdeck and the doggies and then porter are on the main deck, right? If so can I reach the edge of the after deck that is directly above the porter? (I am naming the porter Jaque, "the porter" is just too formal.)

If so. "...the tip will be worth it. Say you are a little trapped there. Toss me up some of that rope you are sitting on." If he can I will loop it through the rail and toss the end down to him. If he cannot go to cannot reach response.

"Tie that to the trunk and we can haul it up."
Assist as much as I can but the physics says Jaque is doing most of the work. If this works haul the trunk over the rail otherwise assume a variation of the cannot reach response.

"Thanks Jaque. We're all done here, unless you want a ride north." Assuming he does not. "Wise choice, have one on me." Tie 1gp into a hankerchief and lower it down with string.

If he does want to come north or if I cannot reach the point above him.

"...the tip will be worth it. Say you are a little trapped there. Well hold on, I'll see if I find a way around. We'll work something out."

"Will someone tell me what that was all about?" Donata is clearly perplexed by the turn of events with Dagaard and the captain in particular.

The first mate's appearance is a welcome diversion. "First mate Morwhin. It's good to meet you. I am Donata Petali. A barrel, a trunk, and some other parcels were to be delivered here for me. Trade goods and such for our arrival in Brinestone. Who would I talk to to see if they arrived and where they are stored? "

Spoiler:
what was the deal with the captain's transformation? Was that change in posture and demanor, or the dropping away of a glamour?

After he is informed of the time of departure, Arbot just waves off the captain's strangeness. He takes note of Alfonso's message, but doesn't seem to do much about it.

"Morwin, is it? Well, I find myself with Lukas again. Show us down to the bunks and we'll arrange our things and help out with the loading of the ship. Anything to shorten this trip, if only by a few minutes!"

[ooc]Alfonse turns to the no doubt amused crew on the afterdeck. He wipes away a tear with his everpresent hankerchief/ooc] "He was a lovely man." Alfonso's demeanor changes suddenly. morwhin leads all of you below decks. as soon as you clear the hatchway, you notice a huge difference in appearence. while the deck, the sails, and everything above is filthy beyond belief, inside the ship its a total opposite. walls shimmer with fresh varnish, the floors mopped to pristine conditions, the scones on the wall brightly polished. morwhin glances back and you and chuckles.
yea, it is always a good laugh for me to see new travelers faces first time they go below decks. a woman once told me, "beauty, is on the inside". so, i took it to heart. allow me to reintoduce myself. I, am Captain Morwhin, owner and pilot of the ship Neversere. that thing up above is actually the first mate. but, once we are ashore, it and i switch roles. i save alot of money on port fees and taxes if i send that smelling creature in my place when dealing with local bureaucracy. Up tight officials tend to make long work very short when something stinks right in front of them. HA HA HA! Now then, onto your quaters.
he leads you down the hall towards the aft. he shows pallo, dagaard, arbot, lukas, jacek and alfonso to their rooms. he then leads donata to the large set of double doors at the end of the hall.

donata, give me a sense motive check

glancing around, you see that the visitors/passengers cabins are seperated from the rest of the ship, so a trip topside is in order. you easily walk out the door and see a large herd of ox walking down the gangplank to below decks. Next to the opening, you see a set of stair cases going down.

below decks, it sounds like the middle of town. horses neighing, oxen braying and mewling in discomfort. Stopping a crew member for directions, and answers delievered with some mild cursing, you are told to go down another level and head forward to the bow.
weaving past bags of grain, and bales of hay, you finally make it to the forward hold.
off on the left you see the indicated stall, with a big black horse chewing on some hay.

so what should the prize be for being the 200th post?

dc 15: yes. it is a horse. in fact, it is a war horse. strong muscles ripple across the horses chest, neck, and forelegs, showing off massive amounts of power. the main has been trimmed back and linned with purple and red bows. In fact, glancing around, you see that 6 other horses have their manes braided and bound the same way, with the same colors.

dc 20:
same as 15, but you also notice incredibly small signs nailed in the wood above each horse. in bold letters you see names assigned to the stalls. sargento, bulix, marns, frinahz, suuliin, rex, and trould are listed.

Alfonso looks rapidly about at the identical horses. He shrugs, and starts to sing, his finger pointing from stall to stall in the beat.

"Eini meni mini mo. Hang a peasant by the toe. If he hollers he can pay, save him for another day"

The odd rhyme ends with Alfonse pointing directly at the stall marked "Sargento".

"Let's start with that one."
