Exotic martial weapons

There are a few weapons in the game that allow people to use them as martial weapons in one way and as exotic in another. The Bastard Sword is a great example of this. One handed with the exotic weapon feat or two handed without.

What about other weapons though?

I just read about the Bearded Axe the Vikings used. It was usable as an axe, but the design allowed for disarming and tripping maneuvers. There was a one-handed version and a two-handed version of these axes.

What about having the bearded axe be one of those special exotic weapons? If you didn't have the exotic weapon feat you used the axes as normal axes. If you had the exotic weapon feat you would be able to use them as if they had the special weapon qualities of trip and disarm.

I can't remember the name of the sword, but I remember reading about a large two-handed sword that was designed to cut the heads off of pole-arms. I believe it was a German sword, but I might need to research to find exactly what I am thinking of.

Anyway, why not a sword that acts like a Greatsword without the exotic weapon feat, and has the sunder quality with it?

I am sure there are other examples out there.

What are your thoughts?

I like a lot the idea.

Actually, for my campaign setting, I created the Zweihander, working as a standard greatsword without the EWP feat, and with sunder, brace and combat expertise bonuses (as well as shield of swings bonuses, due to the half sword techniques) with the EWP feat.

That is pretty cool. I can see this as becoming feat heavy, but I like this system in general. That is pretty close on to the idea that I was presenting.

I might test this out next time I run a one-shot game.

In my Golarion games, I let players gain Exotic Weapon Proficiency for a weapon from the region/country the character comes from for free.

Taldor = falcata
Rostland(Brevoy) = Adlori duelling sword
Egorian = Barbazu Beard
Osirian = khopesh
Shoanti = Shoanti bola
Variain = bladed scarf

etc.

I noticed that some of the weapons only gave feats for their exotic weapon feat. This would make me pass on those exotic weapon feats, and instead take the feat they would give me access to with that weapon.

Besides that, I love that document.

Shorten Grip normally has a BAB +6 prerequisite, for example, but you could instead get it for a single weapon at 1st level. That's a pretty good incentive.

I think I love this idea. Didn't humans have one free weapon proficiency back in alpha?

This is better, limiting it by region. (Plus, IMO, Shoanti in particular shouldn't have to burn a feat to use their traditional weapons.) Perhaps there should just be a series of regional traits that allow humans of those ethnicities to count the regional exotic weapons as martial weapons...

In Kirthfinder, we're MADE of AWESOME.

I don't think we have anything up for armor yet, although I know there was some work done on the topic...
