Keleshite / Garundi

Hi folks,

I have a wee little problem with quickly describing these two ethnicities to my players.

I usually go with quick reference to our world (Ulfen - nordic, Varisians - Roma, Shoanti - Native Americans), but I'm kind of lost with Keleshite and Garundi. I think that Keleshites are an Arab analogy, but how do the Garundi fit in?

you would compare them to ancient Egyptians. which.. after a quick google search appear to look like modern Egyptians. :)

actually quick edit to add, it wasn't so cut an dried a search but the pictures of Garundi seem to support an Egyptian/north African look

With references that quick I would go with Kelelshite - Iranian/Turkish with a reverence for their women; Garundi - Arabic with a slash of sub-Saharan African thrown in for good measure.

I would also describe Keleshite as a Turko-Persian cultural analogue, with both pre-Islamic and post-Islamic attributes. With nomadic Keleshites being more Turkic in nature and sedentary Keleshites being closer to Persians.

As for Garundi, I would describe them as pre-Islamic Arabs or Afroasiatic-speaking people (which includes Tuareg, Berber, Somali and Ethiopian). Ancient Egyptians is also a good reference, even though it mostly applies to Garundi from Osirion. Actually, the "Middle-Eastern-like" feeling we get from the description of Garundi is in my opinion a result of Keleshite influence.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

I always figured Garundi to be a wide range of people like the Mwangi, from Ancient Egyptian types to Ethiopian all the way to possibly Kenyan(considering it's the Ororo Munroe ethnicity, kinda-sorta).

That's exactly how I saw it.

Yeah, seems to me Keleshite = Arab and Garundi = North Africans - a mix of African, Mediterranean, and Arab. You know, Algeria, Libya, Egypt, Tunisia, like that.
