ePub for the core game?

Product Discussion

Hello.

I have recently purchased a Sony ebook reader, which can handle PDFs but does far better with ePub documents. Most other readers I looked at buying support ePubs, but have even worse support for PDFs.

I am holding off on buying Pathfinder products until I can use them on my reader - I already have D&D PDFs, but am looking to "upgrade" to a similar system in a more suitable format.

I know this subject was covered a year ago (you can find the thread in the archive), but I am curious if the answer has changed as time has past.

I know the initial concern was graphics. To that I propose allowing two downloads - the standard PDF, and a graphics-light epub version. For those that don't know, the epub format supports HTML formatting, so tables etc could certainly be included, just not the beautiful artwork from the printed material.

I strongly suspect that if labour is the main concern, that can be resolved with volunteers from the community. I would be more than happy to join in converting sections of the RPG to the epub format, so long as I knew it was going to be officially maintained and supported, so that my work would not quickly go to waste, as it would with an unofficial attempt.

Anyone know what is going on with the format, or have any comments about converting it?

cheers,
Andrew

Gaming books to not make good ePub/mobi files due to things like tables even more so than graphics. I've seen it attempted, removing all the graphics and making it into single columns and it just looks horrible.

ePub is an outstanding format for straight text like novels, but it will never see use in gaming books unless that is a design goal of the book from day one.
