Diversifying Clerics: Changing your starting channel

Homebrew and House Rules

Next time I run a game, I may allow clerics to choose any of the alternate channel types instead of the default channel energy.

Here's how it works:

Alternate Channel

At first level, a cleric may choose to replace the normal use of channel energy with one of the following feats as a bonus feat:

Alignment Channel, Channel Smite, Command Undead, Elemental Channel, Turn Undead

This choice may not be changed. The cleric may spend one feat to gain the normal use of channel energy.

For example, a cleric that takes alignment channel as his alternate channel may only channel energy to harm or heal outsiders of the selected subtype. If this cleric later spends a feat to gain normal channel, he may channel energy as the normal use of the class ability.

As a houserule option, i don't see it as being over/underpowered or broken. (my 2 cp)

I like it, I could see myself using this.

I like it, the usual channel is a bit cheesy, though it is does feel like a downgrade of the cleric.

There's nothing stopping you from going with regular channel.

Another thing I might do is adjust alignment/elemental channels. Channel good will heal good outsiders or harm evil outsiders. Channel fire will heal fire outsiders and harm cold outsiders. Etc.
