Ancient and Classical board games: Recommendations?

Card & Board Games

Can anybody recommend me some good board games based on the Classical and Ancient world? To be specific, set in the ancient Mediterranean countries, Rome, Greece, Egypt, Persia, etc.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated. :)

Advanced Civilisation, every time.

It is out of print but Boardgame Geek has some helpful links.

Here.

Ancient Empires. Also discussed on BoardGame Geek here. It might still be available to download.

Imperium Romanum. Out of print, and maybe not unless you're mostly interested in the wars of Imperial Rome. Much more of a wargame. Here.

Mare Nostrum. Possibly in print, and certainly more recent. Here. There's an expansion which adds mythological elements.

Empires of the Ancient World. Here. Treefrog Games publish it.

Thanks guys, good suggestions. :) Will look in to picking some up.

Fire And Axe. Great Viking based historical game.

As far as Mare Nostrum goes, you better have the extension otherwise the games is kinda flawed.

I know that they are working on a new edition, but I still don't know when it will be released.

Check out Republic of Rome.

It is a great simulation of politics in the pre-Empire days of Rome. You will need to cooperate with each other to keep Rome afloat, but be underhanded so that you can gain the most influence. Great game, if your friendship is strong enough amongst your players!

I would recommend that you only play with players who you know well.

Dark Archive

On a lighter note..."Survive: Escape from Atlantis" is good fun for all!
